This a shout out for Budget, not a complaint. When I came over to see the Oxford Utd match with my French mate Charlie in tow, I'd arranged to hire a car at the airport because the timings were a bit tight to take the train.
The process of getting the car was straightforward, albeit they had to block out £300 on my credit card because I'd arranged my own excess insurance cover. I knew this was coming as per the T&Cs, so no sweat. The two young people on the desk were deilghtful to deal with.
The car was fine, an MG hybrid, it got us to Swansea via Baglan to get my season ticket with no problems, then back to Baglan for an overnight stay. In the morning it was back to Swansea for a tour of my old haunts in Mumbles, Langland, Caswell, etc. Then lunch and back to the airport.
The deal on petrol was full to full, so we pulled into the Texaco station near the airport, only to find we couldn't work out how to get the filler cap unlocked. Tried every key combination, looked for buttons and levers without success, tried everything we could think of but the queue was growing so we eventually gave up and headed for the airport to ask them how to do it. I remembered reading in the T&Cs about penalties if you didn't return it full, so I just wanted them to release the cap so I could go back to Texaco to get it done and return the car full. As we drove to the airport, the rush hour queue back into Barry was humungous, and I thought "f*ck, I'm going to have to fight my way through that just to fill the car up, then get back to the airport, that's going to take well over half an hour".
Parked in the rental lot and went in to find the same nice young lady behind the desk. I explained the problem, she said she didn't know how to open it either. Then she said just leave it there, we'll fill it up tomorrow morning. She must have seen the suspicious expression on my face, because she said, don't worry, we'll only charge you for the actual fuel used, no penalties
I couldn't really turn her down without appearing curmudgeonly, so we gave the keys back and headed for the departure lounge.
A few days later, a bill for 24€ for fuel appeared on my credit card, about £21, and the £300 deposit was lifted a couple of days later. They hadn't ripped me off. Such a shock in rip-off Britain. I am very impressed with their service and attitude, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them in future.
