Think many of us would agree that it's been justified his critism. But it's only fair to highlight as well how good he was tonight. Let's hope this is things to come.

Had a poor month or so, but he’s clearly a solid no nonsense centre half for a mid table/top 10 Championship side. I appreciate he got promoted with Ipswich and played in the PL but would suggest that’s his natural level.

He also provides some experience and leadership which as a group we’re lacking.

I think people initially got carried away as they wanted him to be much better than Darling (they’ve got very different strengths) and then did a 180 and there were suggestions he needed replacing in January.

Will prove to be a 7 or 8 out of 10 signing over the length of his contract - depending on your expectations - IMO

I think that’s a fair point and the balance of him and Cabango isn’t ideal if you’re looking to play out from the back.

Personally, having a left footer is almost as important though - unless you have an Ash or John Terry type who have a range of passing with their ‘wrong’ foot.

If Casey wasn’t on loan I think he’d have played more, but just can’t see us ‘dropping’ the captain or new signing who I’d imagine is one of the highest earners for a young lad who’ll be gone in May. (I’ve been impressed with both loan defenders tbf but they’re behind 3 players who hardly miss a game through injury)

He had one moment today where he lost both track of his man and the flight of the ball and it could have been costly, but he made an immense recovery challenge to block the shot to make up for it

Contrary to this, Burgess being able to pass with his left foot is more natural to release Tymon down wide more effectively.

Not a Burgess to Darling comparison, just a general observation of the difference it makes having a natural left footer playing on the left CB side.

(FWIW anyway I'd have Burgess over Darling in my team every week.)

I don't think he's been any worse than Cabango overall, but some shitty luck with OG's has painted a target on his back. Neither of them are as comfortable on the ball as for example Harry Darling was, but both are more than capable in an old school CB way.

Personally I believe there’s something more to Burgess it’s as if he’s really bought into the fans and the club,I’ve only been to two away games this season,West Brom and last night but before that he put out a statement on social media apologising to the fans,then at West Brom it looked really strange (and I said so) how he stood in front of the fans on his own after the rest of the players had walked away with sheer devastation on his face and Matos had to come and get him,then last night it was the complete opposite,he stood there with sheer joy on his face staring in awe at the fans.
He’s a good guy.

Ben does it now and again but not to the extent Darling did. His career hasn’t gone the way he expected it to.
Casey I reckon could bring the ball out if we gave him a run of games but because Ben was made captain unfortunately he won’t get the chance.
