• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Burgess has the second highest number of headed clearances in the division and is very good in open play when the ball is in the air.
On the ground he's not so good and doesn't like to be rushed.
Issues from set pieces are more of a technical issue for me than a personnel one. The players often don't appear to know what's expected of them from corners and free kicks. I don't know whether we have a system but if we do the players don't seem to understand it.
We're 10th best in the division for goals conceded and 17th best for goals scored. We need to be better defensively but our bigger problem is the other end of the pitch.

We've had a remarkable turn around with our offensive set pieces under Matos. I'm sure I heard in the way down by the sea podcast that one of his new coaches has taken over offensive set pieces, and the old coach is still on defensive set pieces. If that is the case then there is an obvious solution.

Edit: I had to fact check that after saying it. It very much is the case 54mins in:

Burgess with all his experience should be taking control of the type of situations you've just mentioned.

His lack of footballing intelligence along with Ben will be an issue if this team is going to progress in to genuine promotion candidates.

Agree to a degree but the captain is alongside him and should be getting a grip.

To be fair, the pair of them should be taking control on and off the pitch

Perhaps a change of set piece coaching expertise instead of Margetson would help. It looks as if Margetson encourages keepers not to come off his line.
Whether its the near or far post we have conceded too many goals at set pieces while also the matter of a loss of concentration when conceding goals at critical periods in the game - first 5-10 minutes, minutes before half-time, opening five minutes after the restart, and last five minutes of the game.

Absolutely outstanding game from Burgess today.
It was his game today. It was pretty much all in front of him and set pieces. There aren’t many better defenders in this division in those situations. Turn him and get in behind, especially on his right side, and he struggles, but for pure defending he’s a bloody rock.

Given we want to get the ball forward quicker now and our CBs only need to defend, he’s perfect for us.
