Cameron (Brainless) Burgess

In Burgess's defense as I think he is being crucified unfairly here, that first goal he was the only one to sniff the danger after he drifted across to cover what should have been Cabango's position. He had a lot of ground to cover and while defensive coaching for games should tell players what foot the opposing strikers prefer to use he was rushing to block what he thought would be a shot, if Cabango had been where he should be then he would have been in a better position to have his weight neutral and stand up Broadhead.
Exactly. That was Cabango's position.
I think Vig could have done better as well.

However, Burgess got caught twice in that same move for the first goal. It shouldn't have got passed him the first time. All academic but we should really have have 3 or 4 goals and a couple of penalties.

Watching Doyle for Wrexham last night for me highlighted our main weakness. He’s a solid defender, strong and quick, and has an unbelievable range of passing, very much is the Ash Williams mould.
Then there’s Ben and Cam with their hit-and-hope passing and M25 turning circles.
I respect them both, they are mid table championship players, but with them at the base of our spine mid-table is all we’ll ever achieve. One or the other and a player of true quality alongside would work.
Up to the scouting on department to find a gem.

Desperate for a ball playing cb to keep tempo and break the lines

Burgess is a carbon copy of Ryan Bennett, league 1 at very best.
Bennett had almost 300 appearances in the top 2 tiers - was very average at this level with us at the end of his career though tbf.

Burgess is a similar type of player, I agree, albeit with most appearances below Championship level. He’s more than competent at this level for a mid table side (same with Cabango). If you want to get to the playoffs you need an Ash type player to carry one of them (like he did with Garry Monk) and allow them to solely focus on defending.

Agree with you about Doyle. Tough job to find someone that good this summer without breaking the bank like Wrexham did for Doyle - fee could rise to £7.5m, plus a buyback clause and 25% of any sale.

We would desperately need the club to identify more of a Galbraith signing than a Burgess or an Inoussa.
