We maintained promotion form under Sheehan for over a quarter of a season. The difference being that it was maintained without the pressures of maintaining that form to keep up with / keep ahead of the chasing pack.

Our attacking reinforcements on paper look like excellent acquisitions, as JackBot said if they can hit the ground running and if we can show our best foot forward while being mean at the back (which seems to be a Sheehan focus) then our chances are good in my opinion

Nobody really knows until the squad is set and we get about 15 games in, we should have a good idea of what we’re capable of by then. At the very least having a lined up structure and people at the club whose ambitions are to improve and not coast should give us a decent chance at finishing higher, even if it’s not top 6.

Once we see who the LOB/Grimes replacement is & whether we bring in another striker

Not until we replace the players who have left and we get the chance to see if the players we sign are good enough.

O'Brien and Allen have gone with no replacements signed, unless Widdell is earmarked for one of these positions, which seems unlikely.

If we make two central midfield signings who turn out to be as good/better than LOB and Allen, then I think we have an outside shot at a promotion push. We'd all love a new striker, but I have hopes that the likes of Cullen, Vipotnik and maybe even Yates will improve their output if we're more creative going forward.

At the moment our squad is quite a bit weaker than last season.

We’ve lost one of our best central defenders, fingers crossed the replacement is as good if not better (on paper he should be). We have strengthened the back up there which is positive.

We’ve lost our best midfielder and another hugely influential midfielder / one of the leaders of the squad. We haven’t replaced either at the moment.

We’ve strengthened the wing, which was needed, but not up front, which was even more needed. And we don’t have a back up keeper or full backs.

Hopefully we will address those areas. But at the moment, we are a long way off promotion material. We will have to see how the summer goes.

We’ve lost the best player from that period though. Possibly two or three of the best (Allen and Darling). The Darling replacement seems strong, the others haven’t been replaced as yet.

Completely agree with this assessment.

Hence what I said the other day, we've been here before in some other windows where there's been an early flurry of activity to keep the fans onside, only for the window to peter out later on.

With Kaplan and Levien in charge the hope was that people would be conned by the early activity, and wouldn't notice the gaping holes left elsewhere in the squad. I'd like to think the new regime aren't going to do that - but we wait and see.
