catenaccio tactical approach Sheehan seemingly favors

toshack played that system years ago with ante playing as sweeper.
Tosh played as sweeper himself as he was developing it. Notably (I think..) when Therefore for the Replay, we went to White Hart Lane...

Midfield diamond where have I heard that before...oh yes Monkball....and tight defense...Cooperball all slated on all forums how long before Sheehan is in the same bracket

As long as we maintain an aggressive mid press I don't see people complaining in the same way as under Cooper. But there is a danger that in a bad run we become more negative and drop deeper. How Sheehan deals with poor form, which will inevitably happen at some point, will be interesting to see.

This system.get the best out of Key znd Tymon who are good going forward but a liability in defence
It may also suit young Bobby Wales
If Sheehan is adapting his style of play to suit our squad of players, I applaud it
Signing Darling and OBrien would make us a quality and exciting squad to watch
However the key to this system will be the sweeper, any suggestions?

Midfield diamond, dont think thats what he will do. He's been playing 4-3-3 for the most part so if he switches to that tactic itd be 1-3-3-3. CH playing as sweeper/play maker. 3 in front of him is 2 full backs and the other CH

Sweeper when defending and Playmaker into midfield when we have possession

I just don't see us playing with a sweeper at all. Which contemporary team plays that way? Far too much being made of one word on another forum. I see no reason why Sheehan would change a winning formula. Perhaps he'll make minor tweaks, such as a move to a 4-3-3 from the similar 4-1-4-1 that we used last season. But I don't see any reason to make radical changes.

I take your point, but he's earned the right to prove he's not another Monk or Cooper.

After the utter nonsense of the Martin and Williams era, we should be grateful we have a coach who finally values some of the basics of football.

Let's give the guy a good go first, before hanging him or tarring him with the same brush as others.

I should have clarified in my original post that it was not aimed at Sheehan but at us fans....all of a sudden we are fawningnover midfield diamonds when Monk was criticised for it on the forums..as it killed our fluid play,Cooper was criticised for his defensive approach yet he was the only manager post relegation to get us any near promotion.

Football fans eh....I just wonder how long it will take for Sheehan to feel it.

And im guilty of it myself i was never a fan of Martin but said so early on
It looks like Sheehan us going to get backing and I have enjoyed his football long may it continue.
