Sad news. I always wondered how he found himself drumming for the Stones. He always looked incredibly bored with the whole thing.

Very stylish bloke and great drummer. Perfect lazy groove for the Stones’s more racy approach.

For all of his low-key skill behind the kit, Watts seemed well aware that he was an irreplaceable element of the Stones’ sound. As one famous story from the band’s heyday goes, Jagger once phoned Watts’ hotel room in the midst of an all-night party, asking, “Where’s my drummer?” Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying, “Don’t ever call me your drummer again. You’re my f*cking singer!”

Always preferred Watts' and Ringo's understated drumming - too often confused as "simplistic" and not as good by those who preferred the flash and OTT drumming of the likes of Ginger Baker, et al.
Watts was a superb drummer and it was never about just him.

An incredible piece of info (if true of course ) is that he was chairman of North Wales sheepdog society.
Plus of all people to tell him to wise up as a youngster with heroin was Keith Richards!!!
Charlie never touched it ever again.

A lot of drummers seem to think you need to be flashy, when all you need to do is suit the song. Ginger Baker drum solos bore me to tears but I'd happily listen to Phil Rudd drive AC/DC all day.

Charlie Watts understood that.
