Will Smith behaved like an arse. Chris Rock made fun of someone’s medical condition because he was an arse.

I imagine both of them feel like complete morons today. The show was pretty awful. I used to love the Oscars years ago. It’s terrible these days. Don’t really know what’s changed other than the glamour of the old stars isn’t there any more for some reason.

Well yes. That is the issue with the ‘joke’. The joke is always punching down at people perceived to be an easy target. Women. Gay people. The disabled. Mostly followed by men moaning that no one has a sense of humour.

It’s one thing when they joke about the Hollywood set being up their own arse. Someone having a condition that makes them feel shitty in a business which only, with the very rare exception, values women according to their looks is just bullying.

Will Smith was an arse. He should have grabbed the stage and said that the joke was just unfair bullying against a woman that wasn’t part of the proceedings. Violence isn’t the answer. Making Chris Rock apologise was the right way to go.
The trend though for punching down as comedians is terrible. It’s about time someone called it out. Not in that way. But it’s just crap.
