lack of backing?!
hourihane, bennett, guehi, woodman are all prem players. Add retaining Ayew, Roberts, addition of Morris etc and spending 700k on a 20 year old you're talking absolute shite

If you think a couple of loan players and 700k after selling our best players for good money is the necessary backing for a push for promotion to the premier league then fine, its not mine, we are doing well despite the owners , not because of them

On top of 80K a week wages for Ayew 800K for Lowe at the start of the season, I think he's been backed by owners.

As for selling our best players, this was to sustain cash flow in the club which Birch stated at the time.

So who made the calls to appoint both Birch and Winter? Who would have approved the call to make both Potter and Cooper managers? Who would have chosen to try and put the club back on a financially even keel rather than see the debts mount up to eyewatering levels?

Pixies?

Well the pixies are doing a very good job.

The balance between the owners, CEO, Cooper, players, fans, playing style, youth, recruitment, financial position etc. seems pretty good now. All this has resulted in where we are. These factors don't align as nicely as this too often, and if Cooper did go (if we don't go up I fully expect he will), although I'm confident he'd be ably replaced we'd likely have a wobble or two. So, Mr Cooper, there's no time like the present!

Eventually.

Plenty of mistakes have been made. Perhaps some deliberately. That's one for the courts to decide. See no sense in denying that overall they're making a much better fist of it now than they did between 2016 & 2019 though. Get the club into as good a financial shape as possible. Try to sign players smartly rather than expensively. Hire quality people and let them do their jobs.

It's not a complicated plan in theory, but one that's harder to implement in practice. A lot of clubs and owners can't make work. We're on the verge of doing it twice.

Maybe Palace want to copy their rivals Brighton by having a Swansea Manager

Why would he stay, he would have failed from a good position two seasons in a row with not much backing from the owners apart from words, some might see it as a progression and third time lucky, I doubt that, we either go up this season or it's a struggle to stay up under a different manager next season

There’s no doubt about it, I believe Cooper is being backed by the board who are hoping he’s going to be able to take them back to the big time. He's had his critics, but he’s to date he’s done well.

I suspect if they could have offloaded Ayew they would have because for his alleged £80k per week they’d could have brought a few more players in, but they haven’t and to be fair to the club there’s none of that nonsense trying to freeze him out.

The share sale and treatment of the Trust aside, a club of players have been sold, but Birch, the new owners and others have stopped the rot and prevented the club plummeting down through the leagues, which I thought was a real possibility at one point. If the Club can get promoted and operate a sustainable business model, they may yo-yo up and down for a while, but in the end position they could be a strong position for many years. Sustainable management is the key.

Personally I would hate to see Cooper go, while his football style isn't the most electric around he still churns out results, develops our youngsters and does it (mostly) playing football. That and it would be nice to have a manager who lasts more than two seasons with us before either getting sacked or being poached by someone else.

rather lampard

If we were to go for ex-England internationals I'd take Sol Campbell instead. I used to think he was an arrogant idiot until we saw what he did when managing Macclesfield.

Whereas Potter was always gonna use us as a stepping stone, I get the feeling with Coops he's taking a real genuine interest in not just bringing the youngsters through but achieving big things here. Coupled with the fact he seems really comfortable working with younger players, I don't think he's in a hurry to go in any way.
No doubt someone will bookmark this!

I'd like to think the same, but the reality is that they can't resist the opportunity of jumping into a more "established" PL club, just as most of our previous managers have done, despite declaring undying loyalty! Can't really blame them I suppose, as they will always feel the opportunity won't come again.

For me, the only way Cooper will be in this chair is it we go up this season. Otherwise, there'll be several PL clubs dissatisfied with their incumbents in the close season.

Why isn’t Thomas Frank’s name being linked with the Palace job ?

After all, he’s masterminded the greatest football team on earth so must be in contention for a job at a proper club ! I could do with another Premier club to hate as well so ticks all the boxes !

They say 12 months is a lifetime in football, this time last year SC was getting a dogs life on here, about not using his bench (a pretty poor quality bench most of the time), no plan B, even his appearance.

And before anyone says, I'll admit I was as much to blame as the next man, I hold my hands up. I got it wrong.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone...
