Is this thing ever going to go away, that's all I'm seeing on the news now! https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-italy-toughens-mask-rules-and-closes-nightclubs-after-scientists-warn-cases-are-climbing-12050654

I'm wondering though, they are shoving it down our throats, cases are rising, cases are rising..yet the mortality rate is very low, for example look at the report from sky, Italy 479 new infections, and 4 deaths, the way I see it, either the virus has mutated too be less harmful, or the tests are false..

Iv'e just started looking at this as well, and the figures just don't add up, especially when you start looking at new cases and new hospital admissions. https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Unfortunately, until a successful vaccine is found, we are just going to have to get used to regular "peaks and troughs" with C-19

I'll be honest with you, I don't fancy taking a vaccine one bit! But do you see what I mean about the drama about the new cases? Surely it can only mean 2 things, either the virus is less than it was originally or the tests are false!

You go back to the peak say around start of April, and looking at new cases then, it's reported around the 7,000 mark and say near on a 900-1000 deaths, now it's new cases over a thousand and the mortality figures are a handful, still awful for the people who have lost loved ones.. but the figures alone are not adding up, it's got to be either less virulent or false testing?

Who knows mate, does seem a bit suss.

All I can say is my son contacted coronavirus and he was touch and go being admitted to hospital at one stage, he's a fit and healthy 24 year old so I can't stress how bad ths awful virus can affect some individuals.

A lot more people are being tested now. Back then, the less affected recipients were going under the radar - they weren't being picked up because testing/diagnosis was scarce. Nor were they ill enough to need hospital admission, so they weren't being picked up there either

But please understand it's very individual as you say.

As I've mentioned previously, I'm a fat, high bp asthmatic, who has had lymph nodes removed for previous stage four cancer. I've had it and it was unpleasant, but not as bad as the 'normal' flu in my experience.

It's definitely a weird little shit.

Ah good, I'm glad he's ok, It's weird Iv'e been reading about other effects of the virus, once you beat it, but now you say it, it sort of hits home.

If you only refer to Sky News data (or BBC News data for that matter) then you are only receiving part of the picture. You also need to understand i) number of tests conducted, ii) geographical spread of confirmed cases, iii) hospital admissions, iv) daily mortality rates. Take one of these away and the picture is a lot less clear.

Yes, I think was it something at the start that only hospital admissions were tested? Even so, I'll have to take a good look at the govuk website, because even after a quick 15 minutes look at it it, the figures were puzzling me. I guess the frustrating thing is, we just don't know, who's had it, have we got anti bodies, just feels like being in limbo again once you start seeing the media reporting new cases.

The news organisations get the data from the government.

Indeed they do but whether they then report it is another matter altogether.
