Indeed. They were offered the contracts and nobody should be surprised if a player is ride on the back of it despite not playing.

Player trading is also a two way street. Every selling club needs a buying club and agreeable terms. We can’t have reached that position concerning Bennett.

I don't think we are the selling club when it comes to Bennett, it's up to him to go. Someone who claimed to have known Benno through a mutual friend spoke to him at a wedding and said he was going to see out his last year at Swansea, then hopefully sign for Grimsby where it all started for him.

If a buying club offers him a two year deal on money close to what he’s on now then he will be off like a shot. He will park Grimsby for another year.

I can see us agreeing to terminate his contract in the late hours of Sept 1. I seem to recall there's a taxable benefit to doing so. We're obviously hoping someone will come in for him, even if it means we contribute a chunk, but it looks really unlikely.

Not realistic though surely. Wrong side of 30 and will more than likely drop down a league.

Seems Joseph is off soon, Wales Online reporting season loan to Sheffield Wednesday or Oxford.

Who can blame him? A million quid will set him up nicely for life, and all for kicking a ball around for a few hours a week in training. Then at the end of it he can go and play somewhere in the lower leagues for a hobby!

Completely agree, I wouldn’t be budging, we give these contracts out we need to honour them.

Steve Cooper spent an absolute fortune while he was manager here. Wage bill was huge.

Yes, absolutely, no one can blame him for sticking to his contract, however, if we can find a club willing to take him on loan and pay half his wages, that would still represent a significant saving to the club over an entire season, maybe around 1/2 million. Plus, if he plays around 25-30 games between now and next May, he'll be a much better prospect for whoever may want him then than if he hadn't played a first team game in over 12 months so it would be in everyone's best interests for him to go somewhere on loan.

I can't see any club willing to take him on loan and paying half his wages, that's around 12 grand in it, not gonna happen, 6k perhaps but even at that figure it seems unrealistic, be a pleasant surprise if that did happen though.
