Felt for him yesterday. Plainly obvious he’s not a 9. He’s also not the type to hold up
Play and bring midfielders into the game.
He struggled.
Hope Sheehan realises this after his(Cullens) performance yesterday.

Bench player now. Never been good enough as a striker, and we've just got better midfield options too.

Can’t believe Cullen started after Wales’s cameo against, albeit a poor Crawley.side.
And that doesn’t reflect well on Vipotnik either.
I like Cullen for his do or die performances for the shirt, but even when we sign a CF, both are poor back ups, literally, going forwards.

Anyone know of Cullen is a 9 or not, haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere.

Doesn't help when we launch long balls to him from Vigs and the CB's.. he didn't win any of those duels in the air. He started dropping deep to get in the game which again gave us no outlet especially in the last 15 mins.

It wasn't just his hold up play yesterday; he couldn't connect with two free headers from 8 yards out and scuffed a sitter just before the goal.

He played some lovely through-balls when he dropped deeper but you aren't going to want to crowbar him into a midfield three that already looks settled. He'll be a good option at "#10' when we need to break a low block.

Spot on. This is the problem if we continue to play the same 4-3-3 formation. Our striker needs to be someone who can compete in the air and hold the ball up, specially when we're under the cosh like the last 15 minutes yesterday. Cullen can't do this, he is a number 10 playing just behind the striker, but we don't play 4-2-4 to accomodate him.

Can you imagine if Vipotnik had played up front yesterday though? We'd have got overrun. Cullen didn't score or have any chances, but in a tight game against a play off side he is the first line of defence

The Maginot Line presumably.

An argument can be made for Cullen as a backup #10, but he should never play as a striker again. It's been several years now, back to Russy, and he still looks completely out of place there. Be as critical of Vipotnik as you like, but he at least is capable of winning a few headers and holding the ball up a bit.

The Magonit line proved to be futile. Cullen against Sheffield United was not, he didn't give them any time.

Cullen gets in the team every time over Vip for me. This fabled hold up play by Vip, I think we saw in one game at the end of the season, but other than that…

Despite all the above, Wales should be given a go in front of both of them, unless the new striker lands before the next game.

I also felt sorry for him yesterday. He did some very good uncredited work on the edge of the box but unfortunately it shouldn’t have been him doing it. His frustration was glaringly obvious on the occasions the ball came in to the box but not in the area he wanted it - always two or three yards ahead of him. I like him but it will never work and those balls were crying out for a Vip or Wales type no.9.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul whichever one you go for out of Cullen or Vip. One will run all day but can't cope physically, one can cope better with big centre backs but needs a mobility scooter to get around the pitch.

If Wales doesn't get much game time by October, you wouldn't blame him for knocking on Sheehan's door and asking what's the craic.
