I think he beat a Swede so it’s not impossible to get him back in time for his return in the second round. Fair enough if it was some guy from Oz who had already gone home.

You cant be reinstating people in tournaments based on where they live.

Whether or not Clayton deserved a bye is up for debate, but what isn't up for debate is that he now has a great chance of a quarter final spot. He'd have been expecting to play Michael Smith next round but he surprisingly lost to Zonneveld, who is a bit of a journeyman. Clayton should beat him, especially over a longer format.

It will undoubtedly be a pre existing tournament rule. They won’t be making decisions like this on the fly, there will be a rule about what happens if a player can’t play for any reason and that rule is that his opponent gets a bye.

A simple paragraph in the DRA press release could have explained this and quashed the groundswell of support for the Swedish chap. What’s fuelled the debate is the fact that Taylor was tested within minutes of winning his match.
