Flynn Downes faced Nottingham Forest on Saturday in the unfamiliar position of the middle one of a back three as the Swans were beaten 4-1 on their own territory to make it three successive defeats for Russell Martin and create much debate over both tactics and playing style. It was an eventful afternoon...

Don't think he'll have much chance of that.

Still, after so long, not worthy of lacing Grimesy's left boot.

Another player who has regressed under Martin.

There's an underlying theme. Martin seems to be undermining the confidence of our players, even thick-skulled, impervious brain types like Downes.

Contrast this with the way in which Coops inculcated a Hwyl and proper pashun, throughout his squad, bottom up. An unrivalled Edge.

QPR away - Downes needs a rest on the sidelines, to watch and again learn from the master CM, his el capitan and leader.

By Pashun I thought you meant a new Asian restaurant in town ?
If you mean passion, then Downes shows more in one game than Grimes shows in a season.
If Downes is regressing ( IMHO he isn't) then it is down to playing alongside a player who passes back and sideways for 90% of the game and only has a left foot. Playing with midfield maestro Grimes would disillusion any decent player.
As for Grimes taking dead ball kicks that is another farce

Why do you lot answer the imbecile with logic?

Just either ignore him or like me turn the tables on his wind up merchantry.

Don’t know what you have against Downes, anyone who has watched him live will tell you that he is quality. He’s 22 years old & a shining light in a pretty gloomy group at the moment. Plays himself & some of his team mates out of trouble. Also playing under orders from Martin. Think he needs to be given a lot more freedom to develop. Always looks like he has time on the ball, a sign of a quality player in there

It's very simple Eagle. Pretty sure with your unique visual skills you too could spot it, up high in the Nth East, no doubt.

He has so much time on the ball because he sits too deep, whether playing DCM or CB.

He does this because he needs to give himself acres of breathing space to react. Too slow in thought and deed. If he read the game quicker he would be proactively on his toes. However he's always Reacting, slowly, rashly.

He consequently lunges, dives in, desperately, always. Not doing this is something which is drilled into young players. Stay on yer feet, they preach.

There's no wonder League 1 Ipswich had dropped him, and then happy to see him go at the first opportunity.

Wherever I sit it’s clearly a lot closer than you. He gets little support from those around him & is one of the few who is able to get into position & not be afraid to put his foot in

Your analysis, lmao, I rest my case

And is capable of producing a surprise pass now and again such as third vs Cardiff for Laird over the top and the Piroe sitter chance Saturday when he played the ball as saw the gap
