I think he’ll do well. He’s raw but he’s a very unusual player in the modern game as he can take the ball without tackling. He’s the footballing equivalent of a pickpocket and he could set the Premier League alight if he continues to develop his game as he has here.

Definitely, he's going to get better with better coaches and better players around him.

Good point.

Fireboy, Downes gave us some guts and dog which had been woefully missing.
Your point about being around better coaches and players is spot on.
That extra bit of nurture could polish him up.

Good luck to him.

Perhaps this transfer will shut up some of the naysayers that keep trotting out our owners don't get a fair price for our players. I doubt it mind, moaning bastards will always be moaning bastards.

I think its flynn that's earned the fee these clubs are willing to pay not the club,,ateotd these clubs are prepared to pay top pound because flynn is a great player with big potential.

Flynn Downes is going to be an absolute revelation in the Premier league, he's got one hell of an engine on him . Some on here question his hothead attitude but with better coaching that will be ironed out.

He’s got a bit to do but he’s got a chance because he’s got something you can’t teach, and that is class.

Beyond Joey it’ll be interesting who we bring in. I wonder if we’ll look at a Will Smallbone/Cameron Brannagan type of player, a bit more forward thinking or go like for like with a Matt Smith.

Some left field free transfers could be Tudor Baluta, Romanian International at 23 has good experience already and at 1.92m would give us some height.

Assane Dioussé - a 24 year old Senegalese international with over 100 games at Serie A, Ligue 1 and Super Lig. Much shorter at 1.74m but would provide more experience at a good age profile.

Carel Eiting - ex Ajax and Huddersfield so will be known to Marsh. Championship, Europa League and Eredivsie experience at 24 might be another interesting option

Without a doubt our first priority is going to be bringing in another wingback, its pivotal to how we play under RM and we don't even have two first team wingbacks in the squad at the moment having yet to replace Christie.

Undergoing second part of his medical currently according to Sky, expect official announcement later

That goes for every single player ever sold Shirley.

Rolls Royce of a player, if I got time later I may bump some of my comments of him after he played a couple of games.

What a signing Downes has been for this club, proof the owners need to trust Russell Martin with these smart investments.

Always like him NJ, he's got a big of a mongrel about him, my type of player, every team should have one.

I have to say people have seen much more in Downes than I have, don’t get me wrong he did ok for us but £12million?
F*ck my eyes.

If clucas was worth 16m then Downes should have gone for 25m

Clucas wasn't worth £6M. Unfortunately we had an idiot who paid £16M.

Will be sorry to see Downes go but I always felt he was destined for the Premier League.

Have to say I am feeling a little smug about Palace losing out because they were trying to haggle down the price we would accept while West Ham just went right in with meeting our asking price, weird echoes of what happened when we lost out on bringing Joe back from Liverpool that.

Good call Eiting, technically a good player but not kicked on.
Warren Bondo is another we should be all over, 18yrs of age and out of contract, currently performing for the French under 19s.
