I think he’ll do well. He’s raw but he’s a very unusual player in the modern game as he can take the ball without tackling. He’s the footballing equivalent of a pickpocket and he could set the Premier League alight if he continues to develop his game as he has here.

My feelings exactly. Only a few months into last season, my brother said to me that he looked not so much a L1 player we'd paid £1.4M for but more like a raw young Prem reserve player we'd got on loan. He seems to have an instinct to spot things and react to them far more effectively than any player I've seen for quite some time hence his ability to, as you said, take the ball without tackling. That is something inbuilt that you can't coach so hopefully he can be nurtured to avoid too many yellow cards.

East Anglian times reckon Ipswich have between a 20-25% sell on clause so that's hefty for them and not so great for us.

Unfortunately thats the nature of the beast Risc.

The only real consolation is that we are likely to insert a similar clause ourselves.

If Downes follows the route of Declan Rice and then gets a big money move to one of the big boys for £50m or so then we will get close to double what West Ham are originally paying for him. He certainly has the tools to go that far.

This.

He looks like he has the potential and I hope he reaches the heights of that potential. This hope is not based upon a future sell on fee just the knowledge of a player for us who oozed class kicking on further.

I agree with most of this if not all, my only concern is the step up in pace and concentration level. But good luck and on to the next find?

Mark Warbuton probably had a big influence in convincing Moyes for this deal having seen him first hand when he was managing QPR
