Demanding? Which probably means we'll settle for a lot less if they don't lose interest in the meantime.

Is demanding just Talksport speak, or is it the figure we will be asking for. His worth is only what another club is willing to pay. Saying that what is the lowest we will accept, allowing for any Ipswich fee, before it can be more profitable for the club to see maybe Piroe go first.

Wrong wording by myself I think.

“Flynn Downes at Swansea is somebody that they’re interested in but he will cost £12million,” Crook said.

“I’m not sure they’ve got £12million. I think that really the owners don’t want to put any more of their own money into the project.

“Hence the fact that they’re trying to sell one or two players. I think it’s a tricky summer for Wolves and it could be a difficult season as well.”

I'm guessing if there is any truth in this then Wolves showing an interest late on may have started a bidding war. I'm still certain it will be Palace though, they've been only one in for him from the start.

Alan Nixon:

Crystal Palace are trying to tie up a deal for Swansea midfielder Flynn Downes at a bargain price. Palace have monitored Downes for some time and will pounce if the Swans accept a payment of around £7 million plus extras. Downes is expected to leave the Welsh club imminently and Palace want him ahead of Wolves and Leicester. If the price is low enough it leaves Palace with funds for more arrivals, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Dwight McNeil on their wish list.

If they wont pay the asking price or near to it fuk em, Christ lets not cave in to the first paltry bid they make

Suppose that's the issue with taking the outlay of Darling on without a deal being done for an outbound player. Need the cash.

Bit disappointed with £7m to be honest.

It's the usual stance. It's not what we value him it's what other clubs value him at. He's has one decent season in the championship. £7m may be about right. Palace have only offered £10m for McNeil at Burnley who has at least 2 years prem experience. If Wolves and Leicester think he's worth more they may well put a bid in.

It's Nixon. Stopped clock.

This is all becoming a bit curious. Usually you can rely on Gareth Vincent to only post a story once it's absolutely nailed on, so for him to post that would mean a) it came from the club and b) usually mean it's a done deal. However, b) doesn't look to be the case.

Seems like we're fishing and looking to manufacture a bidding war, much like we tried with Rodon (remember the WHU "interest"?). Also seems like he may be an option for Palace, rather than their first choice.

It's important to remember the PL is not as awash with ready money as it has been in the past. Palace for example have been losing money hand over fist in recent years, plus they have a split ownership (with one of them going around buying up other clubs around the world). Even the likes of Everton are selling rather than buying. FFP is biting for a lot of the clubs.

TLDR: Palace won't have £10m+ to spunk away. Few clubs will. We're in the curious situation of the teams that have come up maybe having more flexibility to buy. It's why I have concerns with our strategy of relying on trading profits to fill the hole.

Hopefully them and Palace start a little bidding war. Anything more than 10 Mil is a great deal for us let’s be honest.

Don’t know how to copy things on to here, but that Dharmesh guy from Sky is saying a deal is close to being agreed for Downes, 12 million. Hopefully that ends any talk of Piroe or Obafemi leaving.

4M more than we all expected plus a good sell on fee and Allen in return on a player bought for 1.4M is great business

Very good player but won't be as difficult to replace as the goals of Piroe and Obafemi, optimistically assuming we're able to keep both now
