England players taking their medals off

Winning bronze and losing gold are 2 different things
As competitive athletes they're going to be annoyed on the day, Im sure in a year or so, maybe longer theyll appreciate how well they did but on the night you cant expect them to be happy when they failed

On the other hand they could be happy that they achieved their highest finish in any tournament since 1066.

(not a typo)

15 mins after losing? nah
At least their media will have something to swoon over instead of a semi final loss in 1996 now for the next 20-30 years

I don't know why I keep coming back to this as I don't really care if people want to be outraged by such a minor thing (especially when so many more valid reasons to be glad England lost were established over the last few weeks), but have to point out a pretty massive difference here.

The England footballers received medals immediately after losing the World Cup final. New Zealand received their bronze medals immediately after winning the bronze medal match, a whole 6 days after losing in the semi final. Pretty huge difference in receiving a medal after winning a match (even one of lesser importance) than after losing the biggest match of your career.

If the England players received medals after losing in the final to South Africa, but wore them with pride, that would be an excellent comparison.

England haven’t played in the World Cup final since 1966.

Whoops! Edited.

All Blacks players wore their bronze medals with pride after they beat Wales at the last RWC, and there’s a team who could justifiably be disappointed at coming third. The English players took their silver medals off after losing the RWC final. I see a recurring theme here.

Am I outraged? I thought I was merely making an observation, but nice of you to inform me. 👍

Apologies you disliked my word choice, feel free to comment on why it was a poor comparison to make if you like...

Happens with losers at every single final. Shock horror, but even our players didn't celebrate the losers medal at Wembley last month.

Nothing to see here mun.

Since when were there losers medals at the play off final?

I don't think it is a thing but frankly if we had them I was in the car and heading home by that point. Unlike the team I turned up for the game though ;)
