Genuinely Excited

I've heard Grimesy is doing his old, "playing as a 3rd CB" routine at coventry too...
Well of course he will.

As soon as he gets his feet under the table, he appoints himself de facto manager on the pitch, and starts doing what he wants, not necessarily what the manager wants him to do.

But hey that's Coventry's problem now, thankfully.

The Grimes move to Coventry with LoB coming in may be one of those rare win win situations. Coventry have rocketed into the playoffs, we've rocketed away from trouble. The extra control that Grimes gives was probably exactly what Coventry needed, whereas the tempo and intensity that LoB gives was precisely what we needed. Right person in the right place at the right time.

Depends who those passes were to and how effective they were. This is the crux of the problem with Grimes. Lots of good numbers, precious little result.
Context matters.. Grimes loved a diagonal pass to the sides that invariably ended up back to him.. Russ, Williams and Grimes are all cut from the same cloth, make our statistics "look" good and maybe a premier team will bite, Coventry have bought a dud, and if they end up in the PL.. they'll get ripped to shreds, as Grimes does in an FA Cup tie and Martin practically helped create the worst team in prem history.. they're not team players, they're attempting to boost their own nests.. Grimes and Martin both got their pay rise, but the Prem just exposes the reality and their ability.. because invariably the top teams know what they're actually doing

I'm glad we got O'Brien, his intensity out of possession was exactly what we needed to galvanise the team. But if you compare O'Brien's creative stats per 90 (expected assists, chances created, successful crosses, goals) to Grimes', Grimes' are far superior. You can fault Grimes for the low tempo of his play, but you have to be estranged from reality to find fault with his creativity.

It's because he has a million passes per game.. it will be higher due to volume.. honestly, he'd be in Man City's midfield if you'll go with a stat sheet, he boosts his stats on purpose.. he come up against Southampton this season, and got absolutely annihilated.. teams this season have let us have possession, they actively let Grimes have the ball.. only numpties can't see it

Big spending Frank Lampard (England and the prem’s highest ever goal-scoring midfielder) opted for Grimes, not LOB to elevate Coventry into the Top6.

We backfilled well by getting Prem league LOB (earning x2 Grimes) to keep us up.

Super Frank chose well, as per.

Some of our challenged fans (you know who you are) have clearly never played the game to any level.
It’s becoming beyond embarrassing, in lots of ways.

So actual goals, assists, chances created, passes into the final third don't matter? It's irrelevant if a lot of Grimes' passes are safe ones. He picks his moments. Grimes gives control and purpose. O'Brien gives intensity with chaos. Both have their place, it's not binary.

Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Kevin De Bruyne did that, Grimes has on average 6 assists a season and a few penalties.. Piroe scored 41 goals for us.. so this mistifying centre forward that Grimes finds on a regular basis over the last few years didn't score at all apparently.. or let's use this statistic.. Grimes passes to our winger, runs 20 yards beats a man and crosses it in, we score and it's Grimes who's this creative dynamo etc.. in a fantasy world etc

That is why LOB is contracted to a Premier League club currently in the top four and MG is contracted to a Championship team which, despite being a good one, also boasts previously deemed not good enough for us Paterson, Bidwell and Latibeaudiere.

Which is why no one bar Coventry wanted MG.

Levels.
