Price on pedigrees these days is eye watering. Especially when you consider the cross breeds aren’t pedigrees anyway. We paid £200 for our bichon. And yes, he still fits nicely in my handbag.

He’s 15 now mind so the £200 was a long time ago. Our next dog will be a rescue. Wouldn’t have considered that previously because as you’ve said, rescue dogs can need a lot of attention but now that we both work from home that bit’s not an issue.

Flashberryjack helped us get the Cocker Spaniel for our daughter, he is a well bred dog and has all the Kennel Club paper work etc. We paid good money for him but it was well worth it, he’s a cracking dog and I have the pleasure of exercising and training him most days.
We live within walking distance of our daughter and within walking distance of Loughor Estuary, which is convenient during this lockdown.
Took him out this morning down to the Estuary.

We have a Labrador and a collie.

We had the Labrador from a pedigree breeder at kennels . We decided to get a rescue dog 6 years ago. We went with an open mind and saw a number of sob stories. As we were leaving, they asked if we would consider taking a manky old collie who appeared to be on her last legs. We took pity on her and thought she would, at least, have a comfortable end of life. Anyway, 6 friggin years later the sod makes the postman's life hell and looks younger than when we took her in.

In the same bought and need a hypoallergenic but you’re right the kennels have very little. Cockapoos are hugely popular (F1 is something else) but it seems like the prices won’t drop for quite a while.

Same with a beagle. Need to sleep 18 hours a day min, with a one or two daylight walks and a bit of playtime factored in they're great. If you keep them awake more than about and hour and a half they're horror bags.

We met with a KC-registered breeder of mini schnauzers who was asking £1560. We'd have paid £100 to go on his waiting list but the timings weren't right for us.

There were a load of suspicious-looking ads on petsforhomes asking much more, and the ads had been cut and pasted multiple times, each time claiming the pups were in a different town.

I'd like a rescue too, but I sometimes wonder if the people at West Wales Poundies would really rather keep the dogs for themselves (I'm sure they don't, but crikey they don't make it easy). The other issue with rescues - particularly ex-puppy farm studs, is they're best-suited to a house with other dogs in order to learn.

I can absolutely recommend either a whippet or greyhound. Whippets are rarely available from rescue centres but greyhounds are frequently, and there is the amazing greyhound rescue wales. They are big, but fit in small spaces and don't need much exercise.

Pedigree whippets are very expensive at the moment.

Many tears are pretty strict on adopting, usually must have another dog too, no kids, a very secure garden and be at home all day.

Another good shout is adopting a stray from abroad, its usually cheaper and the dogs are lovely. We've got a daschund / whippet Cross (god knows how that happened) from Romania other popular countries are Spain and Greece.

We've got a border collie, the most amazing dog you could have, however they are hard work in a sense that you have to take them out every day and exercise them, they are very focused dogs, great with kids but I find don't mingle with other dogs, just basically want to chase something, a stick or a ball, the amount of energy they have is unreal, as basically they're working dogs and belong on a farm they're not really pets, we got her from the rescue place in Port toilet, she's 7 now.
They are very needy, I'm not paniting a great picture here!! They are wonderful dogs but you ave to put the time in with them, I wouldn't change her for the world

We've got 2 Cavalier King Charles, lovely dogs with a wonderful temperament - can't imagine being without them really.
No good for Blaze though if he has allergies unfortunately.
I read an article recently with reckoned that average puppy prices increased from around £500 to 2K under lockdown - crazy prices.
We had a previous dog (coss breed) from the Dogs Trust in Bridgend & they were very good to be fair.

Any dog mixed with a poodle will do, they are very clever and dont moult or give off an odour, that's why my missus didn't want a 'real' dog.
