If we can somehow offload Bennett, Fulton, Walsh, Whittaker and Cullen and even get a fee for some of them… do you think that would offset our finances enough to not have to sell one of the 3 Star Players in Piroe, Obafemi / Downes?

Almost certainly not. I’d estimate our budget deficit this year to be £10m in round numbers and shifting the wages of the above may save us £3m.

This of course assumes that we follow a model built on sustainability.

I'm no expert on the club finances but I'd be amazed if the above lot would scratch the surface of what we need next season money wise. Getting rid of the above still would not come close to say 15 Mill for Piroe if that's what a club would pay for him.

Not even close.

Where moving them on will help is in bringing in new players to fill those positions that are better suited to Martinball.

Basically there's a £15m gap between costs and revenues, give or take. In the absence of any real willingness to bring costs in line with our guaranteed income, that's either going to be filled by sales or borrowing. You could add equity to that list but, well, ...

There seems to be a fallacy in some quarters that our clubs is being run in a sustainable manner. Absolute bunkum. We're no different to most of the division, with the exceptions of those who have just been relegated, and the honourable exception of Luton.

I guess the only sustainable manner of the way we’re run is that fact that we do sell an asset or 2 each year… but how long can we keep finding gems for cheap and selling them on for big bucks?

At some point our luck may run out and we become like Reading etc..

Well, quite. Which IMO doesn't make it sustainable. Not least in the post-Covid world where I'm not convinced the deals will be remotely as plentiful as they were beforehand. Just look at PL combined losses for the last financial accounts.

If the gap was £5m or less it'd be another conversation entirely. I'd much rather we were back to the approach we took in around 2010. Sometimes it's better to have an ownership that, comparatively speaking, doesn't have a pot to pee in.
