Harry Darling.

Every time I've watched him, he hasn't impressed, and that's at the level below.. admittedly only 4 times I have watched him, I hope it isn't another expensive mistake like Fisher.. if we were splashing out, Joe Rodon and Ampadu on loan would be the way to go, local lads who will give 100% and add quality in this division

Well Norwich, Brighton and Chelsea are also sniffing around so he can't be that bad.

If he’s costing £5m he isn’t coming to us.

If what MM says is true, we won't be signing him unless we're selling.. that's what we're all waiting on

Oh yes 100% agree. But we could sell Piroe for £15m for example, and we still won’t spend anywhere near £5m for one player, no chance at all imo.

No idea if Darling is any good, but he'd become our asset and at 22 years old, plus English premium, he could potentially become worth a lot of money.

Rodon and Ampadu would presumably cost a lot in loan fees and wages to get for the season, we're unlikely to go up and they would go back to their parent club at the end of the season, hence a waste of what little money we have.

Darling will cost about 5 million, I'd rather loan in proven players with ability at this level, because even if it's one season, we might go up, presumably we keep Piroe, Obafemi and Downes though.. that's 5 players we know who will terrorise this division.. add in Grimes, Naughton and potentially Joe Allen, that's 8 players of our starting XI who have attributes to challenge most teams in the division.. but I'm resigned to the fact we're selling somebody anyway

Like Risc says, we're not buying anybody for £5m. Not even if we sell £20m+ worth of players will we spend that much on one player. Correct me if I'm wrong, but our most expensive signing since relegation is Celina and he was just over £3m?

Proven players with ability at this level would be great, but the financial reality of this club is that we have to sell players to survive. Expensive loans will actively work against our financial situation. Now if we're challenging in January and those kind of players are available, then maybe the situation changes, although the books would still have to be balanced if we didn't get promoted.

I remember when Marvin Emnes and Albert Adomah were being linked with Premier League clubs, it's called the silly season for a reason

It’s £1.5 million.. I’d imagine an announcement tomorrow

I had a feeling he was coming when I saw Tucker signed for MK Dons.

Would mean a sale will be imminent. £1.5m a lot of money for a club like us at the mo.

I do think he will be a good player for us mind you with huge resale value.

Tricky one I think because Downes came out of nowhere last season for same fee, but yes would suggest someone is off soon, Leeds just signed a CM from Munich guessing as a replacement for Phillips?

We could probably fund much this by offloading leeches (not their fault, they didn't write their own contracts) that we are paying to hardly ever play. That doesn't do much for the underlying financial woes of course. We do need to see someone, but we won't be getting 20m or even 10m for any of our 'jewels'. If they were that attractive to anyone they'd have gone by now. This is an indication of the future when the sales cupboard gets increasingly bare as you can't keep winning bets. I could weep for the way we've been mismanaged since 2013.

Yeah your right Bennett and Walsh both weren’t in the pre season video yeaterday if rumours are to be believed Bennett leaving alone saves us 1M a year, Lati to Burnley 500K there’s your 1.5M transfer for Darling.

I can't see how Bennett and/or Fulton would leave without the guarantee of similar wages elsewhere, why would they, if they have a great desire to play regularly then I can understand it, but not sure they'd give up on another yrs wage on the money they're supposedly on, I wouldn't and I suspect not many would, doubt Bennett would as he is close to the end of his career, but Fulton still has a decent future ahead of him so I could see him moving on perhaps and the younger lads who want to play.

Perhaps we'll have to pay a portion of Bennett's wages for him to leave. Not great for us, but a pretty common solution for unwanted players on big wages I believe. I don't like the idea of paying him to pay for someone else, but even half his salary off the books would save us £500k if his reported wages are correct.

Not forgetting the fact that we’ve got to find someone to take him.
