• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

The night before we went on holiday we went to the Marquis for tea after dropping the dog off at my mate’s house. First time we’ve been there since we moved away from Fforestfach in 2015, we were fairly regular before that. My word, it all kicked off on a Wednesday night. Some dweeb who was a deadly combination of thick as mince and drunk as a lord abused one of the bar staff in a fairly unsavoury way and she went absolutely mental. The landlord (I assume, big fella with a big beard) chucked him out but he kept barging back in cos he’d paid for his grub and didn’t want to go till he had his money back. It all went off for about 20 minutes. This was 6pm on a Wednesday not chucking out time on a Saturday. The food was lovely and I was tremendously entertained. I’m thinking of going back more often. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I'm thinking there probably was a 30% off offer on then 😂

They have them regularly and the place is rammed midweek lol.
The grub at the Marquis is spot on most times (for the price) we go, sometimes it can be hit or miss if offerers are on due to popularity lol.

You always get a cross mix of punters in there, even on an afternoon in midweek it is always busy, but it's bandit country (Lan/Fach) so always a chance of running into some cowboys who hitch thier horses up outside 🤠
The guys working are always ready to step in and are a credit to the pub though.
Top Tip.
If drinking larger, always ask for it to be served in a Stella glass 😉

Funnily enough I heard a few people ask for a Stella glass and vaguely wondered what all that was about.

Most of the lads drink Carling, but the Carling glasses go back longer than me in there, flat as a witches tit in them, the Stella glasses are new and have them widget things in the bottom of them, your Carling comes out fizzing like a SaM missile over North Belfast (circa 1972) 💪💥 😎😂

As it happens I had a few pints of Bow which came in random glasses of all shapes and sizes.

I've swally'd Bow out of a Toby Jug back in the day, t'was an after post-Wilkie party back at my mates old man's house back at the Simcock's estate.
Somehow the jug left my hand and hit the patio at some point...
Part #5 of an #8 Toby jug collection he'd been treasuring since the early 60's apparently 😳
He forgave me.
God Bless Hywel P 🙏♥️

Let's be honest, the grub in the marquis is sh*te.. wetherspoons in Stoke beats it mun, £4.69 burger, chips and a beverage.. marquis is cheap, but you don't get a beer

Never been to Wetherspoons in Stoke so can’t say but the grub in the Marquis was lovely and very good value.

You need to go upto Stoke, it's the cheapest place I've ever been, it is a sh*thole but pints of whatever are all under £3.. even the Chinese is dirt cheap, they might be skinning cats and shoving it in there.. but I don't mind a bit of roughage in my diet.. it'll be carnage up there if England lose

Fair enough, but Stoke makes Penlan look like Miami, get yourself off tae Burslem up the road Skip if you want to get an even cheaper pint, watch your gold fillings mind 😳

I've been to Fenton, Cannock, Stone, Stoke centre, but Burslem is overpopulated by the swathes of folk not from these shores, dodgy as f*ck and people complain about st Helens.. have a drive through Burslem

Went up to Port Vale (Burslem) a few years ago, The White Horse (thier pub) outside the ground, bit like thier version of the Garibaldi.
Got a bit daft for a few minutes...
Thank god we've moved on 🙏
