Just booked for next month. If it's anything like last year it will go dormant just before we get there.

It began about 1.45pm local time today. They've had 10,000 (yes, ten thousand) earthquakes between Saturday and Monday so they guessed something was going to happen and put four web cameras in position. Live footage here. If you click on red bar you can move back in time to see it earlier. Getting nastier now.

At the moment you can go back to 13.17hrs and you can see just a little smoke. The camera then pans to the original volcano crater around 13.20 and by 13.25 the new one has begun.

Looks great! I'm planning to go back there in November so will keep an eye on what it's doing nearer the time to see if I can fit an excursion in to see it. 😁

Just noticed that it's only about 10 miles from Reykjanesbær which is where I spent the night in a hotel the night before my return flight in March.

If you scroll down the page there are several different camera positions.
Both incredible and terrifying.

You may like this guy. Worth watching the beginning at least and if you get fed up, fast forward to the last minute.
