"The midfielder says he would wear the poppy if it was solely intended to remember servicemen and women who died in the world wars - as this includes Irish people".

Every year. Same outrage. The bloke has his views. Agree or disagree, that’s his right. Given where he’s from and the history of that country whether you agree with his stance or not at least he’s consistent.

While we’re on the subject, the whole remembrance thing at football is getting ridiculous. Arsenal did theirs about three weeks ago. Should be this weekend and this weekend only. The whole thing has become a massive “who can show they care the most” fest and it dilutes it.

Actually the first line of that article sums it up nicely. He’s from Derry. Or is it Londonderry? Or perhaps Derry/Londonderry if you want to upset everyone all at the same time.

We remember service men and women as we arm and let a war criminal murder thousands of women and children in Gaza. Thank goodness we remember how bad war is and what a pointless waste of lives those wars were, or god knows what we’d support.

The post war dream.

Hypocritical virtue signalling is what it’s become. My great grandfather and grandfather would despise this ‘rememberance’. I’ll remember them alright, and their compatriots and other countries heartbreaking sacrifices, but I won’t be told how and what is ‘acceptable’.

McLean might be a horrible shit, but not taking part in this charade, before a football game ffs, for whatever reason, is a legitimate choice. No doubt twatter will go mad.

Bang on that.

I wouldn’t wear a red poppy … I’d wear a white poppy tho.

Another thing the usual suspects are going apeshit over the last couple of days is a tv advert for Boots the chemist.

There’s not a week goes by without the same crowd getting their knickers in a twist over something or another.

What's the story NJ? Haven't seen it.

“Once a modest sign of remembrance, the poppy has increasingly been used as a prop for performative patriotism, and a way to gauge others’ loyalty to an ideal of national sacrifice.”
