Aye he had three brothers. One of them was definitely Phil amd one was John. Chris may well have been the other but it was a long time ago.

Yes I know the family well, played cricket with thier farther Tony, was a very good batsmen even though he was in his late fortys by then, Chris is thev eldest, then Phil and John the youngest.

Yup that’s them. Parents were lovely people, hopefully still with us I don’t know. But there were four boys. The one you missed is the one who I was mates with through school and years after.

I’d no idea it was closed. I don’t go past there much these days. That’s sad. Both the Eagle and the King’s were great pubs in their day. The Wilkie too.

The Wilkie still going, does lovely food too, one of the regulars in the Eagle took it over a few years ago and has spent a lot of money on it.

That was my first regular pub as a boy. They weren’t bothered that we were underage and if you kept your gob shut at chucking out time they’d let you drink well after hours once they got to know you. Terry Carpenter was in charge back then. His eastern accent used to make my teeth itch.

Yes I remember Terry, he had a doberman that he let roam the pub, ate my pastie one day straight off the plate...
