Agent Yates has been dispatched to make sure that Cardiff stay where they belong

In all seriousness though, Luton will have serious cash by League One standards, they still have two more years of parachute payments coming to them

He’s a better striker than most of our tactics allowed him to be. Anyway, chapter over and we move on.

Yep.

He was signed for Duff, started reasonably well under him and then Duff left. Williams wanted nothing to do with him (and probably wouldn't have been able to anyway) so the move went sour.

Don't get why some people have to add the vitriol.

Yates got 9 goals for us in a team where he was in and out of side constantly
He got 10 goals for a struggling team in Derby and was largely responsible for them staying up
He scored 15 goals for a Blackpool side that got relegated the season before joining us

He is a consistent goalscorer, if a team builds around him and gets his confidence and rapport with the fans going again then he will get goals and results, especially in League One

He's not even in the top 10. I don't think he's any good but he did score some for us and apparently we've had over a million back for him coupled with loan fees and wages covered. Not even in the same stratosphere as Sanches, Clucas, Baston, Bony (2nd spell), Paloschi, Eder, Mesa, Ayew (2nd spell), Tabanou, Beattie.

Pound for pound the likes of Duffy, Abbott, Amankwah, Crainey were also far worse.
I thought ayew in his second stint dragged us through parts of certainly the 2nd season under cooper

Indeed Ayew was a bad signing for the club but not because of his performances
The shocking contract he was given paying him 50k a week with no relegation reduction in salary still hamstrings us to this day even though he left four years ago

None of that made him a bad signing however, he was practically single handedly responsible for getting us to the play off final in Cooper's final season in charge

He was a bad signing because paying out all that moolah for him after he’d failed miserably at West Ham failed to keep us in the PL. He was a millstone in the championship as we never got promoted back. That was a terrible signing. Disastrous. Along with Bony 2 it killed us.

None of that is to say that he didn’t play well, and play his heart out in the Championship for us like a lion, but he, bony and Clucas (plus Colin Irwin and Ray Kennedy) were our worst ever signings because of the impact they had in crippling us financially.

I’d add Dai Davies as another ‘worst’ by the way. I’m convinced with a competent keeper we’d have won the league in 81/82. Again, not because he was a terrible player by any means, but the impact he had.

The new East Stand was a f*****g terrible signing too. Same reason.

To what end? We didn't achieve promotion or win any significant prize money. His wages were astronomical for the Championship - the transfer was already well on the way to failure when we got relegated (he didn't score a goal in that half season) and was then doomed as one of out worst ever when we didn't get promoted and then recouped no transfer fee back on. We're still recovering from having such crippling costs. I like Ayew but ultimately he was one of our most damaging and therefore worst signings of all time.

Good move again for all, he will do well in1 plus we have reportedly got over 1M for him, at one point I didn't feel we were going to get that

I think if we'd kept Ayew in the first season after relegation instead of loaning him out we may have bounced straight back.

He was far, far too good for this division, and unlike a lot of highly paid "stars", was not afraid of just getting on with it instead of stropping about being somewhere he didn't want to be.

I agree.

It sums up the total lack of a plan and the panic after we got relegated that we sold a load of players for less than their true value, and sent him out on loan, when the parachute payments were at their highest. Then we inexplicably brought him back after the parachute money had been cut. They really were clueless owners.
