He’d be better off staying put here and help us challenge for promotion, rather than going to that basket case club, London & money talks I guess, but they ain’t paying anything like 10M for him imo

Not sure about Premier clubs spending big on Championship strikers who score goals. Clubs have had fingers burnt with Mc Burnie, Brewster, Adam Armstrong, Che Adams. I'm sure there's others with a similar tale to tell. Bowen at WHU has done well but I certainly think Premier League clubs would be more cautious than before. Has Brereton of Blackburn been linked to a Premier league club? He was out for a bit last season but still scored over 20 goals. How many can you expect from Mitrovic next season? He scored 43 last season.

Watkins has scored double figures in both seasons at Villa and earned some England caps, plus Toney has shown last season that he's good enough in the PL. Definitely more misses than hits though to be fair.

We need to sell him to pay the bills

Unless the board think we can survive one year with just removing the high earning deadwood like Bennett and Fulton.

It feels like we’re not a million miles off having a team that can challenge if we can keep our stars.

I think we’ll start seeing some movement with Piroe within the next week or two. Downes was always ear marked as first out so I’m assuming talks had taken place late on last season, Piroe apparently not far behind.

Odd as it may sound I feel like selling Downes first puts us in a stronger bargaining position should someone come in for Piroe.

The fact that we could say that we have about £6m or so in the bank to help with wages (conservative guess minus sell on fee for Ipswich and what we paid for Darling) would mean we wouldn't need to contemplate any knockdown fees for Piroe just to balance the books.

If someone does come in for him I would be looking at Ollie Watkins as a guidepost for the fee we should demand. Similar age, similar goal scoring and assist figures, no issues with AFCON midseason commitments and he went to Villa for I think it was just under £27m.

Our opening demand should be that much and we should accept no less than £20m.

Watford signed a new striker today so he won’t be going there
