Sadly passed away.
A man who worked tirelessly to help bring peace in Ireland.
Key in bringing Sinn Fein to the negotiating table rather than relying on the AK47. RIP

When people see the images of him with ex IRA and Sinn Fein members they will no doubt label him as a TeRroriSt SyNtHeSiZeR.

RIP John.

Hopefully not mate, I think that's more reserved for politicians with a track record of being in the company of any movement or organisation opposed to freedom, expression and thought.

Oh you mean that guy who was in the IRA, Hammas, was a Czech spy and did a part time job for the kgb?

Ps why are you flying an Israeli flag? Talking of oppressive countries.

I don't let my personal beliefs cloud my support of genuine people regardless of the country. Israeli people have long had to endure hate and disgusting slurs from quarters who think they are being politically correct when they are no different to the extreme far right.
I have sympathy with the people of Israel, as I do Palestine but for different reasons, from the standpoint that many of their immediate families were freed from nazi (yes, at last genuine use of the word) death camps across Europe in 1945 and were repatriated by this country amongst others to the lands they live on now. To an extent I don't blame them for being like they are, although I don't condone it, they have more than a recent history of being murdered in their millions. And when opposed its clear to me they won't let it happen again. Its sort of like learning from experience.
That's an opposing view, as I've said before the politics of 30 years ago, Tony Benn and Margaret Thatcher is dead. We can't be one thing or the other any more.
Just a view like.

I admired John Hume a lot. It may be true that if it hadn't been for his efforts there wouldn't have been a peace agreement and hundreds more British and Irish would be dead. If people ever tell you that politicians never change anything, mention his name.
