Josh Key on Plymouth Argyle | Reaction

What an eventful season he's having. A very good start up til Christmas, then getting progressively worse under Williams until he was a constant disaster waiting to happen, and now apparently back to his Bale like best. He was on fire last night, Plymouth couldn't handle him. Long may it continue.

Last couple of games. He hasn't overly given it away. Needs to work on his defending. But his press yesterday was class. I hope he does kick on, but not holding breath at moment.

Saw an interview with him on youtube recently and he was fairly open about how he's struggled mentally this season after a good start. Said it's been the hardest period of his career, but he feels he's coming out the other side of it now. Hope so, as he went from being a rising star to a total liability.

Oh really. Never saw that. Not that it makes any difference or reason. But he is from a very Christian back ground and read how much this means to him and how he lives his life. Again, we will never know or should we know, why but you have to wonder maybe the bale comparison and pressure and reading what is said online didn't help.

"I've never been the type of person who's rolled in and played in the middle of the pitch. Credit to Luke, it's a very nice style of football to play, but I think what Sheehan's allowed me to do is to be myself again, and I think my recent performances have shown that I'm back to being the player that likes to drive forward, play forward and run forward. That's what I like to do. That's how I like to play football and I think it's showing with my performance."

This was a quote from him on Wales Online. He also hated being told to come infield by Williams

You'd hope that feedback from the players is encouraged.
If Key told LW that he wasn't comfortable in playing inside, then is shows what a muppet LW was to persevere with it.

And it says a lot by implication regarding LW
I thought the same when I read it this morning

The thing with high risk positions that players are not used to playing is that it only takes a few high profile mistakes that cost a team points (Key's mistake against Leeds in the 4-3 loss for example right after our stoppage time equalizer) for a player's confidence to take a battering

So much as players may deny it they definitely read news articles and forum posts

In fairness .. any RB who tries to dribble the ball out against a high press is only going to end in tears. His marauding into CM probably was to fill the gaping gap left by Fulton and Grimes.

Going forward Key looks a threat but his lack of pace in transition is a weak part of his game and the questionable first touch.

Hopefully Sheehan can improve his game further.

Key basically confirming what most of us suspected - that Williams was overcomplicating things and asking players to do things they weren't capable of or comfortable with.

100% the right decision to get shot of him, no question about it.

We really need to make sure we don't put another Martin or Williams clone in charge next.
