I reckon that's spot on in fairness.

It's probably a situation that's been made worse by downgrading Academy status. The quality of opposition the youth teams face has dropped. I mean, the MG cup is all well and good, but are they really testing themselves against the likes of Afan Lido?

Downgrading was forced on the club no doubt but those two from across the pond didn't value anything the club had built once we lost our Premier league status, not saying that they didn't attempt to try, because their did put a good deal of money into the club albeit by one means or other.

In fairness it was probably impossible to finance Academy one status with the income we were generating though.

Yes actually. We bombed out first round at Baglan last season and Cardiff lost to Cambrian this season. Also the strength obviously increases the later the tournament goes. TNS soundly beat us in the final 2 years ago.

Merthyr soundly beat our u21s this summer. The opportunity to play against a team of fully grown men shouldn't be underestimated either.
