Lessons not being learned?

Not to mention that the subs he did make were of his often used "bring on defensive players and try to sit out the last 25 minutes before inevitably conceding a late goal or two" type.

The squad does need strengthening. Ideally we'd have added some of the genuine width and pace that we currently lack, but given the way Russy was sending the team out to play nobody could seriously have expected him to make worthwhile use of it at the time.

He has changed his preferred style. We play four at the back instead of three, reducing the amount of empty space opposing teams found it so easy to attack into. We're less obsessed with playing stupid passes in our own area. We have more of an attacking threat in midfield now Ntcham is playing through the middle rather than from the flanks. Paterson is no longer persona non grata.

Somehow certain people have convinced themselves that this is Martin being proven right rather than admitting what he knew for months but refused to accept. What was apparent from previous occasions when he'd tinkered with the style before reverting back to Plan A.

No argument from me about the squad needing to be strengthened. However what we had was certainly better than three wins in twenty odd, as is now being proven. Your paragraph re the change in style highlights the point perfectly.

I wonder if those who “could see what he’s trying to do” are now up in arms about the four across the back and the change away from the kick about across the back line.

No wins in eight between 23rd October and 30th December. Has this got anything to do with January?

We then opened up February with Birmingham at home. Ahhhh Brum home, a 4-3 defeat snatched from the jaws of victory through two injury time goals. This was where we ended up with ten men on the pitch as a result of Martin getting his subs wrong. Has this got anything to do with January?

Like the self professed football guru done, writing the way you have sends the less inquisitive reader down a false path. Like when people cherry pick stats to suit whatever they are trying to prove to someone.

So by saying our shite run started in October, let's look at the results.

We beat West Brom Away.
We beat Watford away.
We beat Sunderland home.
Lost to Burnley away.
We beat Reading home.
We beat the scumbags home.
Drew away to Bristol.

In other words, a very good month, but the self professed guru tries to dress it up as a bad October with the way he wrote it.

In November, we lost 1 game. Didn't win any, but in two months we only lost two games.

Now December is when it went proper shite, losing three, drawing one and winning one.

People will always try and skew things to suit their point of view. Slight differences in wording makes big differences to the reader. I was in the Marin out camp around December i reckon.

Read it again and tell me where I said we had a bad October. you’ve read December wrong as well, we did not lose three in that month.

Apologies, I included the Burnley loss in Jan as Dec. I didn't say you wrote we had a bad October.

I was highlighting how presenting results / dates a certain way can completely change how something is perceived.
