Fully understand lots of people despising Rugby on here, but just wondering if anyone here who doesn't has ever been, or knows of people who have been on a Lions Tour to SA?

Group of us have paid our deposits to go to the three test matches in South Africa July & August of next year, but they still haven't told us the actual price of the tour. Even trying to get a ballpark figure is proving difficult, need to know whether I can up/down savings.

I dont.
Rugby -both codes - is a great game

Two reason some hate it or pitifully refer to it as egg chasing:_

1.Made to play at school
2.Too much Welsh media exposure
3.Rugby fans making out football fans are a lesser breed.

Its pathetic.

Ive seen overjoyed to see some great League and Union players in my life and Im grateful to enjoy both games.

You will enjoy A although not sure about any Afrikaners you meet

I went 2009 with the Mrs it was our 25th wedding anniversary and she had always wanted to go on a safari so we killed two birds with one stone. I paid quite a lot of money about £5k each all in to go on an organised tour, with hospitality at games and at least 4 star hotels plus a week at the Safari just outside Joburg. Had a great time we both thoroughly enjoyed, South Africans incredibly friendly and proud of their country, we did all the must dos inc Robben Island, Table Mountain, Soweto tour etc.

I would recommend hospitality at games because it is very difficult to get a drink outside most stadiums other than at supermarkets etc.

I was very impressed and would go again, the only downsides are the obvious inequality between the rich and poor. It will be shocking but the SA’s seem determined to make something of their lives, I had a tour of Soweto with a young student from there who was incredibly proud of his country and his opportunity to make something of his life, he was also critical of the corruption which was the bane of the country.

It was incredibly cheap to eat and drink out at the time, obviously things have changed enormously since then, both in the value of the pound and the SA economy, nobody knows what the impact of Covid 19 is going to have on the world but SA looks in a poor state especially the eastern cape.

Hi Risca - I went in 1997 and again in 2009 and had a great time. I would imagine £6k - £8k these days for a good trip.

It’s a fascinating place and, like most places, you need to have your wits about you 100% of the time.

Cheers all,

Yeah we have been told yesterday by tour organisers £6k for the three test tour, which is about par for the course I suppose. Spending money I assume will be about £2k. One thing certain after all of this, I think Australia in four years time will be out of reach  ridiculous amounts of money to go there i'd imagine.
