Interesting thread this! I must admit, I have never heard of this health and welfare. Just googled it now.

It seems the right way to do things.

If you're thinking of PoAs in relation to elderly loved ones, I would recommend you get them done. The H&W one gives you the right to speak directly to medics etc without the "privacy" issue while the Finance one means you can take control of a person's finances. This one was invaluable to me when my old mum was deteriorating mentally.

My Parents are gone now, me and my brother were are the executors but when it came to Probate only one of us could do it, Dads was sorted quicker and through an easier process, Mams was different and more involved.
It's only my eldest here, to consider the youngest is 24/7 care his brother would always put him first anyway.
So not sure if we need to give him POA.

The decision is all about sometimes looking at the extreme.

If for some reason both you and your wife can't make health or financial decisions, then your son with a POA can make the decision and also have authority to talk to banks etc. Remember this is for when you both are alive not when the will takes over.

It’s very important to get the PoA done when you’re compos mentis. It’s too late when you’ve been diagnosed with a form of dementia because you can’t legally give permission to your loved ones to make the vital decisions for you if you’re not of sound mind.
Hopefully, the PoAs will never be enacted but it makes sense to have them in place just in case.

Very true.
Everyone should remember, who knows what tomorrow brings.
