And that pain was only heightened after an attractive instalments package that would have seen the Swans pay just £300,000 of that fee up front proved insufficient in convincing the club’s owners to stump up for the 21-year-old. The remaining £1.2m would have been given to MK Dons in chunks across the next four windows, although it wasn’t to be.

Madness, I haven’t really criticised the board but this is not good is it.

It is worrying and short sighted that they didn't go for that deal.
Seems to me they could have sold him in a year or two's time and made a good profit on him, judging by his start at Celtic ?

We always seem to get ourselves in a bit of a state this time of the year. It's the owner's call. That's just where we are. The future is uncertain, but it looks like it might be turbulent ahead. I think what I still fail to get is that we can afford to loan in an £8m player from Germany but not to complete a permanent deal that adds value. I suppose you need to be party to the finances for that one.

Still, we are hardly short of 'roster inventory' now. Don't forget we spent decent money on Obafemi, Piroe and Downes.

So we have enough defenders, enough midfielders (with Paterson, Ntcham and Wolf and also Piroe as attacking options there. No reason for Smith, other than choice). and Piroe and Obafemi competing for Martin's dogmatic one up top, plus two new wing backs that can at least play the position, and a few centre back options. On top we now have the goalkeeper he wanted. Play Benda and he'd have had one of the others we missed probably.

We aren't desperate in terms of adding numbers. It really is down to Martin to get a tune out of that little lot, starting tonight. I don't see how he can blame anything else if he can't. Organising a defence and being less negative with the ball would be a start.

Martin basically said this in an interview when comparing Downes and Piroe as low cost guys who will be sold on for a decent profit.

Yes. The O'Riley story was clear, he wanted to come, we didn't want to pay, even in installments.

Money was never made available for deal.

Exactly, but they also risk an even bigger loss the lower we slip down the league, I guess they want full control of the club before selling?

Not finding 300K to stump up for O Riley is really laughable from them.

Well it's not costing them personally anything to keep the club going, they aren't funding us (besides loans with interest) so they may be happy to Bob along taking cheap punts hoping we strike gold on a manager that'll get us promoted.

Vicious circle at the moment as every manager becomes disillusioned very quickly, Potter one season, Cooper two and he was more public with his issues, and I'm pretty certain Martin is feeling the same way.
