This was as the ball was played back to Fisher. I'd say that's a press.

So jogging towards the opponent is a press?
Ok.

Apparently so. Nathan Wood invited them on with his customary backpass and sprint back towards the goal line, and in fairness he read it beautifully and told Fisher where he wanted the ball so that he could restart play with quick and accurate ball leaving their half-arsed attackers stranded. The key moments in that move were Piroe holding off their defender to keep the ball at the start, Wood’s pass and Piroe’s finish.

Who's jogging? The Wigan player furthest away is within touching distance of our player (Cabango?) - he's tight enough he doesn't need to move. One is hedging his bets between Manning and Ntcham, and the other is closing down Fisher quickly - he's certainly not jogging. The other is pressing Grimes - who receives the ball from Fisher. Grimes has just started his move towards the ball so he's gained a yard on him. Yes, it's a press.

And then Pato sprints 25 yards without anyone near him, another fine press.

Just give it up musher, you’re starting to sound pretty foolish, Pato sprints 25 yards without anybody near him because the press has been beaten…that’s the whole point…no substitute for Lineker are you.

Another fine press you’ve got me into?

It was a fabulous goal. I’d love to see that every week. To deny that would be silly. It doesn’t matter it’s a terrible Wigan; you can only play what’s served up; it was still magnificent.

No need for badges just a pair of unblinkered eyes in your head.

Cannot deny we have played some good football at times

But again, for balance, we have played some spectacularly dull football as well.

Credit where it's due indeed but that goal also has to be considered in the context of it being against the worst team in the league in a game where we didn't need to get out of 2nd gear.
