I don't think anyone is asking for 10m pound signings, but signing a couple of players for 2-3m wouldn't go a miss.

The last player we spent £2m on was Asoro. How did that work out?

What a valid point ...

I'm not talking about splashing money on any player. Smart recruitment of players that cost 7 figures. Not Potters recruitment of a young sweed who had a handful of games for Sunderland

We spent almost £2m on Craig Beattie under Sousa then spent less than half of that on Scott Sinclair (who had played a handful of games for Chelsea) a season later. Piroe could turn out to be closer to Sinclair and Thomas Henry could turn out more like Beattie. Spending money is no guarantee of success and you would think any Swans fan who has been paying attention over the years would be aware of that.

It is a good excuse for Cooper to hide behind though.

No it isn't a guarantee, but it does allow you to go up into the next level of player, and let's be honest a 2m player from 10 years ago is around a 6-8 million pound player these days.

That's why I said smart recruitment. Not just for the sake of money

Any swans fan paying attention would know we didn't spend anywhere near 2M on Craig Beattie.

Beattie cost £600,000

I thought it sounded high, but that's what they state on Transfermarkt (https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/swansea-city/alletransfers/verein/2288) which I believed was fairly reliable. I thought maybe we had to pay out on some transfer clauses because we got promoted, but will happily hold my hands up if I was wrong.

Jody Morris odds have come down massively 18/1 in the last hour to 4/1.

Thing is, it doesn’t matter who it is. They could be the best manager in the world, unless they get the financial backing to impart their ideas we will continue to repeat this charade time and again

What kind of financial backing though? The type of financial backing that sees us start sliding heavily into debt or the financial backing that dilutes the shareholding of the Trust over time,

We established some time ago that the people that own our club will not invest in here - the only reason they are here is because of the desperation of people to make money off the back of the football club and to do it at the expense of what was right...

Can you honestly tell me your satisfied with the financial dealings of the club during the current ownership. Players have been sold for half their market value. Clearly the current administration have no idea what they’re doing.

If Ben White (is that his name) is worth £50m please explain to me how rodons market value is £10m. Nonsense, shortsighted money grabbing!

Ben White was under contract at a club that doesn't badly need to sell players to survive financially, played the full season for Leed's Championship winning team and then a whole season in the PL for a Brighton side who had a pretty good defence, then was named in the England squad for the Euros. Plus the usual English premium (which helps explain how we conned Fulham out of around £20m for Mawson).

So while Rodon was sold a tad on the cheap side, it doesn't really compare with Ben White's move to Arsenal.

Beattie £1.8 from WBA
Sold for £900,000 so
2 seasons 1884 minutes over 46 games
7 goals

That is simply not true.

Wasn’t Beattie only 800K and he left on a free?

That's roughly my memory of it. At the time 800K was huge for us. People forget that Sinclair cost us 500K with a further 500K payable upon promotion. The thought of us paying almost 2M for Beattie, at that time, is complete and utter bullshit.

You’re right, it doesn’t compare but it should do, and that’s precisely my point. Rodon was an established international when he left and widely considered the best centre half in the championship. We got bullied by levy and sold him for a pittance, in relative terms. What annoys me more than the lack of investment from the current owners is the idiotic sales of our best players, our most valuable assets for half or less than market value. Football aside, it’s sheer stupidity!

That isn't true. He joined for a club record £600k, rising to £800k dependent on performances, and left on a free. He joined Hearts on an initial three month deal, there's no chance they'd have paid nearly £1 million for a short-term contract player when they didn't have a pot to piss in at the time.

It's safe to say he wouldn't have achieved all of his performance related bonuses, and any ones for promotion to the Premier League pay for themselves.
