On checking it was an Easter Monday Newport beat Cardiff, John Aldridge scored, it was Newport's 7th league win on the trot and they went top the league that day with just 7 games to go but unfortunately they only won one of those 7 and that was against Wrexham, County lost out to the big boys (for that division) in the end with Pompey, Cardiff and Huddersfield going up.

Newport had good players like Tynan, Aldridge and Lowndes in their team at that time.

After Cardiff lost to Newport they dropped out of the top 3 but won 5 and drew 2 of their last 7 games.
Wrexham got relegated that year after beating Cardiff at Ninian Park on the first day of the season.
