No Refreshments!

Imagine not being able to have "refreshments" for 90 minutes, the absolute horror of it.

For God sake, it's a temporary measure mun.

More like…

30 mins before kick off.
45+1 minutes first half
15 minutes half time
45+4 minutes second half
15 minutes to get to somewhere where there are refreshments

Total Time: 2hr 35m (roughly)

I need to drink frequently because of a medical condition and the medication I take.

Yes some refreshments are allowed to be brought in and it is temporary but how long have they had to sort this out? Why are they only advertising for new staff now. ‘Oh yes’ the Manager situation comes to mind. I know they have got rid of the last caterers.

Why don’t they just get some burger vans to set up inside the compounds? Fans could just go outside and get refreshments, inside the fenced areas.
The South, North(away) and the East have fenced areas where they could TEMPORARILY have the burger vans. The West Stand concourse is big enough for them to be put inside.

I have a real dislike of these fans who think going to the football is not an occasion, they treat it like they are going to church! By all means that is their prerogative but some of them don’t need to force their views on others.

If you have a medical condition, then take refreshments in with you, they've said that is permitted. It isn't going to be 30 degrees, so the drink will hardly be warm.

As a guess why it's taken so long, the ongoing covid situation which was only resolved in the last couple of weeks. They were hardly going to take an army of people on, in the hope they would be allowed to open up the refreshment areas. Take them on and put them straight onto furlough? There is a nationwide shortage of people wanting to do this work at the moment as well.

Going to church? Because i don't want a burger or shit beer? Aye, you know me well

It is temporary, you will live. Just go and enjoy the football match on the pitch.

I actually found the Carling not too bad in the concourse to be honest, much better than in the hospitality areas, obviously not fussed on the plastic pot or the £4.70 a pint.

Moan moan moan moan moan. We’ve got a game tomorrow btw, looking forward to not seeing the tw@ts that f*ck off to the concourse 10 mins before halftime and come back 10 mins after the second half has kicked off. Yip.

Each to their own and all that but never understand people spending loads on food and drink before and during the game in the stadium. Eat before you get there. Feed your kids before you get there.

If drinks need to keep cold for the game, stick one in the freezer for an hour before you leave.

I think it’s more important for away fans really...the only time I’ve eaten at football matches is the odd pie and a pint after a long trip to a ground. For home games I think it’s far nicer to go to a chippy before or after a game.

It doesn't specify what the policy is on cooler bags and ice packs does it!

It’ll be like going to watch Glammy in the past down St Helens.

Exactly what I was thinking about. They were good days out down St Helens. It's not been the same for Glamy since they ditched St Helens as a regular venue.

Agree it is no big effort as it is only temporary and is probably down to getting rid of caterers and possibly not having cashless technology ready yet.
However staffing situation is the same in Blackburn and Reading, which both had drink available ?

Not being able to sell vastly overpriced food and drink to the punters is going to cost the club an absolute fortune in revenue, someone needs an ass kicked.

The first part, yes. The last part, possibly not..

In my own work place we had three (confirmed) interviews lined up this week... not one turned up.

I have it on good authority that something similar happened at the club. God only knows how much the food & drink places are suffering.

Have those clubs recently gone from an outsourced service, to an in-house service? Bear in mind, if you are using an already established company, they will have staff already in place and trained, with others waiting in the wings to step up and ready to go.

See DJack post below, not sure if you have ever been involved in recruitment for your company, but finding willing employees isn't easy these days. You get let down before their start date, on their start date, and just days into their employment. It is a nightmare out there.

How will people survive?!
The last one is truly shocking. Seems all buses heading up the valley stop at 8pm. On a matchday Satrurday evening!. Cant help feeling at times that Covid is becoming and excuse for bad service in SOME areas.
It’s not about how people will survive. It is destroying the match day experience! No programmes and no refreshments. I don’t drink alcohol down the Liberty, but I do like to get a cold bottle of Diet Coke or Fanta! I know I can take refreshments with me but by half-time they will be lukewarm.

The new and exciting match day experience…
1. No Programmes
2. No Refreshments
3. 8pm kick off on a Saturday night
4. Crap transportation.

Fair enough on both points.
Both clubs may not have gone through the changes we did and I appreciate the issues with recruitment, especially when ( I guess ) the posts are for the most part minimum wage.
Regarding programmes, I asked a steward outside Ewood Park where to buy a programme and he said the club were in dispute with the printers - maybe they will end up like us with no programmes available on matchdays

I haven't bothered reading about the programmes, as I don't bother with them. Is electronic versions the way they are going with them now, or is that just a temporary thing as well? I'd imagine there will be quite a lot of elderly fans who won't be able to access them, so will miss out, which is a shame.
