It is a ridiculous situation given how crap Man United and Spurs are, but the winners of the Europa League have gone into the CL the next season since 2014/15. Clubs like Sevilla, Eintracht Frankfurt, Villareal and Atalanta have benefitted from this, it's only getting attention because this year's two potential winners are so low in their domestic leagues.

UEFA probably felt they had to offer CL qualification so teams would take the competition seriously.

A more important issue for me is whether the money in the PL is now creating a gap between teams in the PL and the rest of Europe. You'll always have teams like Bayern, Real Madrid and Barcelona competing in the CL, but the rest could struggle. Man United are terrible this season, but just smashed the team in 4th in La Liga over two legs!

Then again PSG, the cream of a Farmer's league in the view if some, have dispatched the best of the PL.
