Ok, I'll say it.

To be fair Widell sets the tone in the team. Galbraith is an excellent player. There is an argument for both players.
Indeed the difference in our press at the top end of the pitch with and without Widell is night and day
He and Franco together usually set the tempo off the ball, when they both move up thats normally the cue for the wingers to join the press.

Looking at the flash scores stats

Widell rating 6.5

35 games, 0 goals and 1 assist.

Maybe next season when he has 0 goals and 0 assists he will be player of the season.

I will put it it in plain english, he's not good enough. His he really any better than Ollie Cooper.

Much prefer the eyeball test to some random website.

Solid 8/10 for debut season in a new country and new league.

Can he get better, absolutely. Will he get better, absolutely.

Not going to answer the Ollie Cooper question, the answer is fairly obvious to most.

So how many games has he started ?
I see a player with potential who will only improve .
He has pace skill the ability to run with the ball plus the ability to play anywhere in the forward position which Matos likes .
I never write any player off after one season .
Starting wide left saturday he brought a balance to the team .

Stats don't lie but as Smurph mentioned the eyeball test.

Widell presses that leads to winning the ball back by making the team make mistakes. He is unfortunate not to be on at least 4 goals this season. And sets tempo for the team. His performance on Saturday was brilliant, from his movement and passing.

Yes he could improve on certain areas such as assists, but that will come.

The ability to run with the ball, 😂. He's already 24, not much room for potential.

He's technically not good enough for attacking role at championship level. He just reminds of Ollie Cooper. If we want to get out of this division, we need a lot better.

8/10 for 1 assist. He's does a lot of running and pressing(hand clap), but he is not technically good enough. E

Each to their own, I quite enjoy watching him and the rest of the team play week in week out. I haven't been able to say that for a number of years.

Football these days has been diluted by the overuse of stats.

He needs to improve his stats obviously but anyone who's watched Cooper and Widdell can see without doubt that the latter is a far better player.

Personally I’ve seen enough in Widell to persevere with him. Would have liked for him to get a a few more goal contributions this year but he has found his feet now and I think we’ll see the best of him. Played against some top championship level players the other day and really stood out.

I do think he’s more of an 8 than a 10 though, I’m not expecting huge numbers from him but I’d expect him to get in and around what Franco has this season. His pressing is hugely important for us and we’ve started to see some of his talent recently, that flick to Tymon on the volley was impressive.

It’s frustrating but I think like the rest of some of our players, he needs a bit more time and development.

We can't carry too many players from midfield on with stats of 0 goals and 1 assist for a full season. I will give you the defensive midfielder, but the rest need to contribute more.

The stats for the team is dire when you take away Viptopnik's goals. If he leaves and we still have the same players next season, we are in troubling times territory. There needs to be a overhaul in midfield and out wide.

You stick to stats, I'll keep using my eyes.

I think Eom and Widdell need to get to the next level and offer more in this league. You can see they both have something that Matos can improve on.

Sadly, Ronald for me is a lost cause but I guess he has his fans.

The main argument for neither Widell nor Galbraith being the young player of the season is they’re both way too old for it. Widell is 24 and Galbraith is about to turn 25.

The only players we have that could be considered young players are Parker and Yalcouye,

It’s not a case of random websites though. The stats are the stats. They’re a matter of fact.

We paid a decent sum for Widell and he’s contributed 1 assist and no goals this season.

That’s not good enough. It would be different if he was a teenager that we paid a quarter of a million for. Like Bobby Wales. That’s a wait and see.

And I like him as a player, but we have to start producing an end product if we want to achieve anything at all. Widell needs to substantially improve next season. As do many.

We are completely reliant on Vipotnik and Tymon. And probably Vigs. And I suspect Vipotnik will go in a few weeks.
