• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

Moderately encouraging news that the events at Orgreave will finally be looked into. As per usual, doubtful anyone of rank in the police force will face any repercussions, but nice to think that some scumbags enjoying a day out cracking skulls may be feeling a little nervous this morning.

I remember an ex-rozzer saying on Planetswans that he thoroughly enjoyed cracking skulls of striking miners at Orgreave.
I believe it was the Merseyside Constabulary.

.... "In 2016, the then Home Secretary Amber Rudd rejected calls for an inquiry into events at Orgreave, saying it would not be in the public interest." ...

Many witnesses from Orgreave have said the Conservatives didn't want the inquiry - because of the involvement of military personnel, illegally masquerading as police officers.

You’re probably right but guilty people will always try to justify their wrong doing.
What happened to those miners was an utter disgrace.

A mate of mine saw his cousin on tv in the police at a picket line and was surprised he was there, I said well they've brought coppers in from all over. He said yes but he's not in the police he's in the army.

I’d heard something along those lines many years ago, not sure if it’s urban myth or the truth. Hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of it. If, and it’s a big if the military were involved, then this enquiry will have come 30 years too late to deliver justice.

There were police from other areas there I remember one bragging about beating miners up.

I don’t agree with the term PIGS right across the board, there’s an ex-policeman who posts on here that I speak to at most home games and he’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met but some were PIGS,right fucking PIGS.

Absolutely. I know a few police officers and most of them are absolutely lovely people doing their best in a difficult job. I'm sure plenty on the lines in those days absolutely didn't want to be there and did their best to avoid injuring people. Then there were those who saw it as a fun day out, with the authority to batter people with no repercussions. Unfortunately the police force will always attract some of that type.

I wholeheartedly concur.

"Joe Diviney, a historian at the University of Sheffield who is researching a PhD on the Orgreave events, pointed out that this appeared clearly to be the PC Martin incident. Martin was identified, including in police documents, as the officer who struck Broomhead, and a report was sent to the DPP who decided, on the same day Martin was interviewed, not to bring charges."

"During an interview under caution, Martin denied wrongdoing, and said of the Orgreave policing: “It’s not a case of me going off half cock. The senior officers, supers and chief supers were there and getting stuck in too – they were encouraging the lads and I think their attitude to the situation affected what we all did.”

100% agree with you.

Policing is a tough job. The nature of the role brings police in to conflict with others, telling people what they can and can’t do, stopping them doing things they want to do, locking them up etc etc. I know a few police and they are generally very tidy people who talk to people as people and treat people with dignity and respect. I’ve also encountered 1 or 2 who were arrogant, rude and just not very nice people, but they were qualities that went beyond their job and they were also like that in real life.

There’s good and bad everywhere.
