Orgreave inquiry

According to some of the dullest internet denizens, this inquiry (and the lowering of voting age) has been announced to make sure people vote for Labour rather than Reform.

This raises so many questions, not least is why would that be the reasoning when the next election is up to 4 years away? The chances that this inquiry will be anywhere in the news cycle at that point are next to zero.

Let's hope that some of the newly enfranchised youngsters have more sense than some of these senile old fools.

100% agree with you.

Policing is a tough job. The nature of the role brings police in to conflict with others, telling people what they can and can’t do, stopping them doing things they want to do, locking them up etc etc. I know a few police and they are generally very tidy people who talk to people as people and treat people with dignity and respect. I’ve also encountered 1 or 2 who were arrogant, rude and just not very nice people, but they were qualities that went beyond their job and they were also like that in real life.

There’s good and bad everywhere.

They have one of if not the toughest jobs in modern day Britain. Made a 1000 times worse by people’s propensity to reach for their mobile phones and literally goad the police into doing “something”. Add in those ‘auditing’ bellwhiffs who go out of their way to get a reaction from the police.

Why anyone would want to sign up for that shite is beyond me

A starting salary of circa £30k, a bit more in London. I’m surprised that anyone takes that for a career working in inner city policing.
