Pasties

I am not going to start a pasty or pastie thread as it may have been done before.

Which is it ?

Pasty singular. Pasties plural.

Davies of Mumbles in the Market and of course in the Mumbles have lovely pasties nice and flakey corned beef, Jenkins closely followed, Greggs can get in the bin.

Norfolk Bakery in believe it or not Norfolk Street in Mount Pleasant do some loverly Cornish Pasties, Jenkins the same, bit off the beaten track I know, but Tiabach Bakery on Tanygroes St Tiabach do lovely pasties as well, Cornish pasties and their own style cornbeef ones

The best bakery around is Tan y Groes, their pasties are a thing of beauty but for superb quality try their crusty rolls, simply the best bread around.

PS the little round pies are excellent as well.

Their custard slices are lovely to, but I think Jenkins ones are better. :D

As for a custard slice i agree theres not much in it mind. But i have to say Baglan Bakery takes the homour. Called into la Creme last week picked up a custard slice which was disapointing and my Mrs reckons the her lemon merangue was just ok, wont be rushing back at thsose prices.

Yeah are the dogs doodahs, saved me last night, after the missis making an abysmal tea! There was only one left from earlier in day, but f**k was I thankful for it.

Edit. Due to spelling missis wrong, I spelt it millsis,
What abysmal tea did your missus, sorry missis, cook that was that awful. How can a tea become abysmal , what went wrong?

Having a great pastie as a back up is always a good option. I am searching for the right one. I will try a Mavis Davis one next week.

Well she made pasta, and some sauce accompanying it, and it was bland as hell, tasteless. I did tell her as well, not her fault forget what the sauce was, but it was horrible. I normally enjoy pasta as well.

Edit: Just found out it was Gomo Passata Di Pomodoro, disgusting it was.

Eynon’s pasties were standard fare when I was younger, not much comes close.
Lewis’s pies all day long too. We used to pick these up fresh from the Sandfields bakery on the way into work almost every day, late 70’s early 80’s.

Jenkins pasties are decent, but I’ll give a shout for pasties from the Popty Bakery in Aberaeron, really tidy.

Not a pasty, but the potato and meat pie from Morrisons is well tasty.

Why anyone would get a past from Jenkins or Greggs on Oldwalls when they could walk the few feet in to the market and enjoy the more delicious fayre in the market befuddles me. I too am dismayed by the demise of Sweetman's but there one trading under the name of Sweetman's in Port Talbot. I asked them about any link and they told me they had bought the recipe after Sweetman's folded. That is my go to pasty if I am in that area.

My mother in law's home made pasties and pasty pies beat any commercial ones I have tasted.

I find the corned beef ones from both Jenkins and Davies unpleasantly salty. Though I don't add salt to my food when cooking/eating.

Actually isn't everything from Davies pretty rubbish? (Opinion based on all pastie and custard slice purchases I've ever made there)?

An old workmate of mine was a fitter down at Peters Pies a good few years ago. He always told anyone that would listen "never eat pasties or pies from there". When asked why, he said that he saw a middle aged woman working on a big vat of corned beef mixture and she sneezed which made her false teeth shoot out into the vat. She stopped the machine, fished them out and licked the teeth clean of corned beef mixture before popping them back in. He said that was the least we had to worry about as there were quite a few disgruntled workers putting some quite disgusting things into the vats.
