Russell Martin again found some of his press conference ahead of the Blackburn game focused on the position regards Jamie Paterson with the forward player back in the plans ahead of the weekend game after returning to training yesterday after his absence from the team. Paterson has missed the last five...

I understand Martin trying to show Paterson in a good light - he wants his best player back. But the mental health stuff and now trying to claim it wasn't over money! It's getting silly.

Martin is trying to smooth the way for Patersons return and thats fair, was the players stance about money, probably, Paterson was scratching around for employment a few months ago and we took a punt, but too put a fine point on it, I'm past caring.

This one does not warrant the truth being publicly aired. Pleased Russell is managing this one out as far as I can tell. Must be a tricky one in the sports management circles. Certainly puts pressure on the management and the player. However bigger things to worry about (results and points) now the toys are back in the pram. Naughton injury perhaps and what to do with Jay.

He's doing the right thing here whatever the truth maybe. He needs to get Pato wanting to play his best. It is in the interest of the club. What's happened should now be water under the bridge for all concerned including the supporters.

Everything is about money and this certainly is.... Pato or is Agent wanted a better deal either with us or somewhere else.

Sadly Pato's card is marked and a section of our fans will let him know if he swans around tomorrow

I'd have more respect if he came out an said it was all about money, after all this is probably one of the last contracts he's going to get as a footballer, and that he's followed the advice of his agent not to play and now regrets taking that advice. But we've known since frame of mind was mentioned that the mental health card was going to be played. I'm all for men talking about mental health, but when it's just a screen for being unhappy with your pay packet and trying to hold the club to ransom, that is underhand and puts the talking about mental health agenda back years.

Shame he used "Mentally" as reason not to play as opposed to "not getting injured" as the real reason.

Do we know for a fact that he doesn't suffer with his mental health, then? Coz maybe he does. It's not for us to pass judgement on

He's still here and it's in everyone's interest that he plays well - he deserves benefit of doubt unless he's blatantly not trying

If we accepted a bid from QPR he would be playing for them tomorrow.. lets not kid ourselves. If he has mental issues then fine he should have support but its seems a bit of a coincidence this ties in with a clause in his contract don't you think?

If he does genuinely have mental health issues, then isn't it wonderful for us & the team that they have appeared to have cleared up 24 hrs after the window closed. Nice that he seems to have his head in the right place again.

No, you're quite right, we don't know
However if he is indeed using it as a screen, that is truly deplorable and regrettable behaviour.

The way I see it is that he's a 30 year old player and he was probably hoping for a 2/3 year contract off the back of his performances which I guess does equate to money but also job security. Its just a hunch but end of the day we'll never really know the full truth just like most things that go on at a football club.
