The first half of last night’s show was tedious as hell. Picked up for the last 45 minutes or so. They’re not the band they were.

They are only big in their own back yard, back to the dive clubs in the US after this jaunt.

I feel pretty much the same. They are a decent pop-rock band. I love ‘Word Gets Around’ as it puts valleys life into song but always diminishing returns for me after that.
I enjoyed watching it last night but parts forced me to the kitchen to clean up. For me file with Oasis. Interesting debut, some good stuff after but increasingly disinterested.

It’s all so safe and predictable.

I just put in on iplayer just to see 2 ex workmates in Cwmbach male voice choir. After that I lasted 2 mins max - absolutely hideous. Kelly Jones has the personality of a half dead donkey, he is not much different in real life either as I know him. Really really odd person from a really odd little town.

I'm no huge Phonics fan, loved Word Gets Around but then started losing interest and could barely name a song of theirs from the last 15 years or so.

However, looking at a list of their previous and upcoming gigs, they're obviously a pretty big act all over Europe and decent sized in the States, a long way from dive clubs:

I have their first album and no others. However, they've just played to 160,000 in Cardiff over 2 nights and have had an amazingly successful career. Good luck to them I say. Music is subjective.

Ebo obviously knows Kelly Jones and doesn't like him. That clearly influences his opinion of the band.

Most people up your way are really odd mind.

There’s some happy pricks on here aye.

In it, I wasn't interested in watching it last night as I've never given them a thought before, but I'm glad I watched it, made for a pleasant Saturday night which was a pleasant change from the usual fair on the Tele box of a Saturday night.
Each to their own I suppose.

Not headlining the big festivals like fuji though are they? Trust me they are small in the states compared to what they do in europe.

He's a prick and a tea leaf. Even if he was none of those I would still not like them because in my opinion I think their music is shit. This is the guy who called Muse a pub band at a festival a good few years ago.

2 words - major labels. They suck the life and creativity out of bands.

Ah right, when you said 'big in their own back yard' I thought you meant only big in Wales. Completely agree they're not very big in the States, a country which already has plenty of similar pop-rock acts that all sound broadly the same.

I got told this story by Julian Castaldi, an old school friend of mine who was their driver and then later photographer for them. They were in hard rock cafe LA and had just been give 'the talk' by Bono. Apparently Bono makes it his business to tell every UK band that comes to the states that they must break America or it means nothing. Anyway they are all sitting there and in walks Bruce Willis. Stu Cable clocks him
"allright butt! Dew you were good in that film aye, Die Hard, me and the boys watched that loads on the bus like. Wanna pint ya cunt?"

Bruce just looked at him as if Stuart had stepped out from another dimension.

Well I enjoyed the concert anyway, not massively into music but I like what I like without having to dissect everything down from what hand they hold the microphone or if they buy the fans a pint in the local.

I also like Kelly Clarkson! Pick the bones outa that ✌️😂

I never liked Top Gear myself.
