Some will argue that transfer fees more or less across the board last summer were driven down because of loss of revenues caused by the lockdown over the course of the season. This year I think that many will expect business from a football club perspective to be more or less back to normal.

For me when you have a young striker of European nationality who has hit 20 goals in a team which has not been a fluent potent attacking force for the majority of the season then you have to look at the likes of Ollie Watkins and Adam Armstrong for where the market is at right now.

Watkins as mentioned went for £28m, Armstrong for £15m plus addons when in the final year of his contract in a summer where as I said above teams everywhere were feeling the pinch financially from the loss of gate receipts.

Our bottom line for Piroe if (when) clubs do come calling should be £20 and we should be asking for £25m.

One of the most important factors that isn't being mentioned, is that there has to be a buying club with a few bob behind them, who fancy the player. Without someone being desperate to buy them, then the price is naturally driven down. Some teams get lucky in that respect, as i suspect Brentford did.

I’d say that we also got lucky with the McBurnie deal.

Sorry, but I refuse to believe that a football club will pay more for players from a certain club because of stuff in the media. Unless the buying club is Man United.

That was a good transfer window in terms of outgoings. If we hadn't also lost the manager that summer and spent some of the money more wisely, then we could have improved the team on the back of those sales. Instead we relied on loans (good ones to be fair) and our only signing that cost us anything was Peterson.

You don't? I'm certain that Sky Sports banging on about 'the Brentford BMW' week after week will have added more than a few quid to the fees of Benrahma, Maupay and Watkins.
