Plymouth fans must be ecstatic

Amazes me how he keeps getting jobs

Football management remains one of just a few industries where failure is continually rewarded

It has to be said that Rooney was a fantastic player, up there with the very best at the time. However, he is not management material, not in a hundred years. You only have to listen to him trying to get his views across as a pundit to see that he cannot communicate effectively.

If Plymouth appoint him, they are sealing their fate next season.

Let's hope they do then, one less space for us to occupy.

Failed at Derby. DC Utd and Brum.. Great CV that.. he must have a great interview pitch ..

Not a single part of me can see any reason why a club would want to give Rooney a job.

His failure at Derby is understandable and he came out with some credit for sticking with them when they were in the shitter, but following that up with an abysmal run in the MLS and then the incredibly impressive job of turning a top 6 side in Birmingham into relegation material in less than half a season have wiped away any kudos he had in the bank for the Derby job.

Clubs look at his name and somehow assume that he will sell shirts, attract players and justify what is likely an impressive salary. I've never heard of an ex player cum manager selling shirts, and he certainly hasn't attracted players or made good use of his playing career connections to bring in players and his track record doesn't justify any salary at all let alone a significant one that his name would likely demand.

Same mould as Lampard and Gerrard.. player reputation and hopefully a network of contacts but ultimately don't deliver in management

Apologies, started a thread about Rooney and Plymouth.....hadnt seen this thread had been started.

Absolutely shocked that they have appointed him!

Without looking, do the Plymouth fans want him?

When I posted this I took a glance at their forum and was surprised, they had a poll which had numbers like 60% no, 30% yes and 10% undecided, the messages had some favourable responses to him being appointed.

Couldn't help thinking that if we were rumoured to be signing him, it would be more than 90% no and this board would be in meltdown.

Having spent a fair amount of time working in Plymouth it doesn't surprise me.
