Here's a proper Planet Swans thread. Which power washers do you recommend? I'm looking to buy one in the next week or two to clear the garden in time for summer. I see Karchers are quite popular - anyone own one? Not looking to buy a crazy expensive one - I guess one that is around the £150 mark.

I'd be looking to mostly do patio power washing and maybe using it for the car - nothing too heavy duty.

Your last sentence reminded me of a mate many many moons ago using a jet washer to clean up a car he was about to flog, it stripped off most of the paint off his bonnet

I've got a karcher, had it for almost 10 years, no idea what model it is but its effing awesome, wouldn't recommend it for the car though swervy.

Same here, my Karcher must be ten years old at the very least. I’ve got the one with the rotary head fitting and it gets the job done in no time at all.

Had a Karcher for years - very good too. It started leaking, which I put down to it freezing in a particularly harsh winter a few years ago. There was a hairline crack in the pump. Have a Titan from screwfix now, not tried it yet but it had good reviews.

So, whichever one you get, look after it in sub zero temperatures!

I spent a fair bit of time looking in to pressure washers last year and read a lot of reviews including Which Best Buys etc and magazine reviews. Nearly went mad! As we were in lockdown, getting hold of one was difficult. I saw a really tidy Bosch on line, but I couldn’t collect and they wouldn’t deliver.

The current Which best buys are dominated by Nilfisk and Karcher with the latter’s K4 (without all the toys) coming in at £200. It’s worth looking at other reviews and checking what they rate and cross referencing them, then google for the best price. I ended up buying a Stihl RE110 from a company in Surrey, it was discounted, they threw in a patio cleaning brush and delivery to South Wales cheaper than I could get locally. Used it a couple of times and I am very happy.

I was initially looking for a Karcher K4 with all the toys, but it was £450. If you’re not in a rush, keep an eye on John Pye auctions, they occasionally turn up there.

Had a Karcher K3 last year when it was on offer at ToolStation for £119 I think.

Been great for patio washing and used it from distance fine on the car. It was either that or Nilfisk at the time.

Now then Bryn, we are delighted to hear it works on the patio, ecstatic it works on the car......but....... WHAT ABOUT THE GARAGE DOORS MAN???!!!??!!?!!!¡

I think we had a similar conversation on the old site. At that time I also suggested a vat of good old hypochlorite as a good means of cleaning a patio. No more than £12 for a 25 litre drum, pour it on and stand back whilst it bleaches things clean.

When looking for your pressure washer look for it's power, the higher the better. Pounds per square inch(PSI) and gallons per minute (GPM) ... But the most important thing is the Cleaning Units (CU).

Not all washers show the CU, but it's easy to calculate ... Just multiply the PSI by the GPM. This will tell you the CU.

Good luck. 👍

I’ve had a Kärcher 520 M for about 15 years(ish) , not one problem in all this time.🤞
Discontinued now but served me well.

Nilfisk is superb. Light and powerful. Had it on special for £110 about 7 years ago. A billion times better than the shite heavy Bosch that I had before that kept shorting out.
