Years ago at work I used to claim mileage allowance, I had to keep a work mileage record, writing down start and finish mileage every working day. Records were kept at work and could be checked by HMRC at any time. Possibly this type of system might be a possibility. Obviously the actual mileage of the car could be checked by a visual inspection occasionally by the relevant authorities.

Yes.

And of course a significant percentage of EVs on the road are company vehicles, cars taken through company schemes (salary sacrifice etc where there are incentives for taking EVs), lease fleets and Motability.

Triple lock and winter fuel.

Disability and out of work sickness benefits need completely redoing. Those in genuine need get nowhere near enough and there are large numbers that shouldn’t be getting anything.

Universal credit needs a massive overhaul as well. We are effectively subsidising huge companies who rely on minimum wage jobs to maximise their profits. Those who are looking for work need a higher amount.

I’d cut the amount we spend on defence.

And the NHS requires a massive overhaul. More money needs to go into primary care and nursing and convalescent care which would save huge amounts from the rest of the NHS. The whole system needs digitisation. And we must start actually enforcing rules around non residents using the NHS without payment (I agree with the use of national ID).

I’d raise income tax, reduce NIC (the 8% rate), I’d increase NIC over the UEL, I’d impose an exit tax, and bring in revenue based taxation on the tech giants. I’d also increase VAT on non food online shopping. I’d also reduce the VAT registration threshold. I’d increase the rates of CGT and increase NICs for non PAYE income.
Agree with all of this except defence. I'd like to cut that to, but seems daft in the current climate. Would also introduce a wealth tax, although I would not make it yearly and have it directly attached to infrastructure spending. I'd also make sure an exit tax was more punitive than the wealth tax.

I don’t mind , obviously, spending whatever we have to to keep us safe. Where it gets me really quite angry, is when we participate more than other NATO countries in every single conflict usually in an attempt to appease our ‘special relationship’ friends.

We then pay again as the thousands of refugees who find themselves in desperate situations due to our actions (or at least not helped by our actions) find it far easier to get to us than they do to the US. Afghanistan being an obvious and recent example.

I'm not sure how many folk would agree with me but I honestly wouldn't object to paying a bit more tax to help fund the NHS, education, defence etc but I have little faith in the competence of those in government who are in charge of spending the money. Some of the waste in poorly planned major infrastructure projects, the scandalous amounts of money frittered away during COVID on useless PPE are examples of what can and does happen.
